People, I want you to help me make a decision between these universities. I have reached an impasse. The scholarships offered to me by both the universities are similar. In UNM, I will be living off-campus since I have a friend there, but in Miami, I will be living on-campus, and no Nepalese is there. Based on your insights on an academic reputation, a social atmosphere, and a platform the university presents, which one would be a better choice?
To be honest, this is the first time I’ve ever heard of someone comparing these two universities. Therefore, I cannot intelligently compare them, aside from the standard online search for rankings - which generally seem to show Miami U a tier above UNM. I would ask yourself the following questions to help in making a decision:
What is my focus area(s) of study, and which school seems to offer better programs and resources?
How important is it that I attend a school where I already know people or there are people of my ethnicity?
Where geographically do I want to live and work after graduation? (if eastern half of US - Miami will be better known, if western half of US - UNM may be better known)
Which living environment do I prefer - on or off campus?
Based upon my instincts, which school feels like a better fit? (hard to know for sure unless you visit but campuses)
Good luck with your decision!
Thank you @LoveandHonor …But, after I asked myself all those questions, I couldn’t still conclude. I mean, I would love to be the only one Nepali student in the entire university. However, the lack of diversity, and the norm to depreciate international student in Miami troubles me.
Nonetheless, how is the scholarship opportunity for current students at Miami University?
I actually found the scholarship opportunities more plentiful for current students than when applying as a new student. Of course, this is contingent upon getting good grades and checking with both the academic department in your area of study and the financial aid office.
