Yesterday, the UNC regular decisions were released. After weeks of waiting, waitlisted. Never really considered this as an option, thought it was going to be either accepted or denied. So, I started researching what this really meant. Noticed that some suggested sending a letter of continued interest (i.e. stating that if chosen, would most definitely attend). Would this even be worth my time? Does UNC frown upon this?
@Aehudson00 It’s good to continue to show interest, but the UNC waitlist is 100% not in any particular order or rank. They take people off by means of a lottery system, so there’s no amount of interest that would boost your chances by any means.
Wow, is it really a lottery system? I thought they would review the waitlisted applicants again. But I think it is true that sending a letter won’t help since the waitlist notification says specifically not to submit any additional materials other than transcripts.
UNC’s waitlist is generally perceived as a gentle rejection to a qualified applicant. You should focus on other schools.
