For anyone interested, please give me pros and cons about the college of music at the University of North Texas being a jazz studies major (based on any experience from last many years to the present). Whether you’re a parent of a student, or a student at the school, anything you have to say will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
GoForth’s son is at UNT, a jazz bassist. I am not sure if he is still active in CC. He has been very helpful here. You can check his threads / posts.

Here’s the link to @goforth thread about his son’s journey. It covers the application and decision process and his son’s first couple of years in the UNT jazz program.
My son is also a music student at UNT. He’s not a jazz major but he sang vocal jazz in high school and was in an all state jazz choir that Jennifer Barnes conducted his junior year. The jazz program is top notch. The college of music is really excellent. He gets great advising, we have been impressed with the level of performance and teaching there. The leadership of the university is excellent and that has really showed through how they have handled this pandemic. Denton and the Dallas area are great for music, although the Coronavirus situation may impact that there and everywhere else for a while to come. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the UNT college of music. My son (OOS student) loves it there.
Hello. How is it going. S is teaching at The Music Academy in the Denton/Corinth locations this summer. He has one more semester coming up in the UNT jazz studies program before we wraps up there.
Hey there! I know you’ve typed so much on this site about your son’s experience at UNT, but feel free to tell me what you think are the pros and cons of being a student there. Given that the pandemic is still happening, I’m hoping I’m making the right decision to complete undergrad before I move to NYC for a masters.
One person’s “pro” might be another person’s “con”. I would say it is good on price/value. There are a lot of resources there, but you do have to reach out to plug into all of them.
