University of North Texas- Denton

My son is interested in UNT. Does anyone have thoughts or impressions about the school? He is not a music major but does have a music background. He's more interested in Liberal Arts.

What about dorm life? Any suggestions on dorms, food, etc? Thanks.

make sure ur son does good but its really important that he sends in his application the earliest possible due date.

im sure he will make it =)

Some of my classmates are going there this fall. They like it a lot. LOTS of opportunities for musically-inclined people. Their foreign language department, especially French, is awesome!!!
GOOD LUCK TO YOUR SON!!!

Being from the DFW area, UNT is about 20 minutes from me. It’s definitely a commuter school for the kids who want to go to a university but still stay at home. Or, if they’re not living at home, they usually get an apartment in Denton–I’ve never heard a thing about the dorms, but I’m assuming they’re under-used or simply gross.

It doesn’t have a very scenic campus, and I get a feeling of dirtiness whenever I go up there (they host a lot of cheer competitions, HS graduations, etc at the coliseum), but that could just be personal preference more than anything.

Denton is possibly one of the ugliest places on the face of the earth. UNT is mainly known as a commuter school, although not entirely. You don’t hear much about any of the programs other than music. It is also NOT very close to Dallas for nightlife etc.

Oh, and all of the Dentonites (Denton-ers?) are in LOVE with Fry Street, which they are convinced is basically the same thing as 6th Street is to Austin. Having been to both, I can assure you that is not the case.
