@goirish1923 great question!!
@goirish1923 great question, I’d be interested to see if there’s a way to get in contact with other gateway kids.
@footballplayer67 Are you a student? Would love to connect!!
@goirish1923 parent here ?? D not on CC how can she connect as well?
hpsca and HM0527…at the visit, I did hear someone say they are capping the program at 76 going forward. I’m pretty sure they said there are 76 in this year’s class and they will take 76 for the incoming class of 2023. They did not give an exact number of successful transfers, but the point came across that very few don’t make the transfer to Notre Dame.
@lastof10 Very good information! If I remember correctly, the number of Gateway students used to be around 48 or so in recent years, suggesting that Notre Dame and Holy Cross continue to build and invest behind this program. Excellent news for this year’s and future cycle’s students, accepted to the program!
Yes, as you already mentioned, Gateway students are carefully selected in order to be successful in this program, and the transfer rate into Notre dame is accordingly extremely high - which of course does not suggest that incoming students will not have to work hard and be committed to their studies.
Holy Cross College students evacuated yesterday to Notre Dame campus
My son was Gateway 2.0. (Second year of program) There were only 21 students that year. All but one successfully transferred to Notre Dame their sophomore and one student decided not to go to Notre Dame. Proud to say he is now a graduate of the University. He is still very close to the students he was in the Gateway program with but also made the adjustment to ND very easily. He would say the most important thing is to get involved in a club on ND’s campus. He was on the rugby team. If anyone has any questions let me know. I also have a daughter at Saint Mary’s college. *Nursing student so no Gateway or ND for her.
If anyone else has visited the Gateway program, please share on this feed. It is so helpful. Thank you!!!
Can RD students get offered Gateway or just REA? still learning…
I believe last year there were RD applicants who were offered Gateway.
Hey guys, I’m currently in the Gateway Program and I can honestly say it has been one of the best decisions of my life. I am happy to answer any questions, feel free to message me.
I was offered Gateway last year RD, as were many of my friends.
Hi All! We have an accepted gateway student. Received the financial aid package from Holy Cross. No aid was offered. Gateways is her 1st choice, but we are looking at big loan numbers and then she wants to go to grad school. The net calculator for ND came in much lower than the HC cost for year 1. We checked that before we even let her apply. We are working on outside scholarships etc, but not much hope there.
Tough spot…anybody been there or have any suggestions on approaching HC to ask for a review?
@lastof10 Thank you for the update in terms of HCC FA for the first year of the HCC/ND Gateway program. It is important to remember, that Tuition, Fees, Room and Bord of Holy Cross College are noticeably below Notre Dame’s, i.e. $43,650 at HCC (2019-2020) vs. $68,801 (2018-2019, and likely 3.5% higher for 2019-2020).

Clearly, the reduced comparative rate is still a lot of money, however would require FA at Notre Dame of approx. $28,500/year, just to break even. There is a Gateway fee of $8,225, bringing the relative cost advantage down to approx. $20,000 for the first year of studies.

I am, however, always surprised that Cost of Attendance and Financial Aid are not bigger topics on CC Notre Dame discussion forums. Thank you for raising the matter here!
Thanks! Love Gateway! Hope we can make it work out - Go Irish!
@lastof10 are you saying ND first year is cheaper than Gateway first year? I hope y’all are able to figure something out.
@lastof10 I have no direct expereince but I would definitely ask Holy Cross to review the aid – I would run the Holy Cross College NPC before calling. You can let them know that the ND NPC told you.
I might also reach out to ND financial aid as well to see if they can provide any help – or at least some assurance that you will get close to the aid you saw on the NPC for sophomore year and beyond.
Good luck.
Hi everyone! I am a current Gateway student and would love to provide insight into the program.
I was deferred REA by ND then got into Gateway in the RD round,. You cannot apply directly to Gateway; in fact, I wasn’t even aware of the existence of the program until I opened my Gateway letter. I am part of the 6.0 cohort, and very very few of us have had any concerns about being able to transfer over to ND. 75-76 will be the number of Gateway students per cohort from my year forward.
Please message me with any other questions and I’ll be happy to answer! I’d also be happy to share my email if necessary.
Anyone going for the Gateway visit on 4/8??
