University of Notre Dame ? Help !

So I read in one of the thread in CC that if you have good grades and religious type EC they get accepted, is that true?

Someone answer please?

It is so much more complicated than that…you need to read more about what it takes to be competitive and even then acceptance is not guaranteed.Look on the admission web-site to see what will make you competitive.

Take a look at the decision threads from the last couple years. Looking at the stats of recent applicants, and their admissions results, can give you a good idea of what it takes to be accepted.

That is what I thought too, thanks for the answers :)

I don’t know what “religious type EC” refers to, but I have never heard this from an ND adcom. I wouldn’t think any type/category of EC would be given preference over others. Adcoms simply want to see applicants are involved in their community and making an impact.

There are many rumors that ND favors athletes over non-athletes, but this is denied by adcoms. However, sports are an EC that is straightforward to evaluate - a varsity athlete typically has a minimum of 20 hours/week involvement for 15 weeks/year in-season.

I am a current ND student. I was never involved in any religious activities during high school, and I got in… From the other students I know on campus, I do not think religious activities are valued that much more than other ECs. AS far as getting good grades, ND is a selective school that definitely cares about your test scores and GPA. That being said, ND is big on community, outreach and faith, so try to hit one of those points in your short responses for ND.
To respond to rmldad, I would definitely say that ND loves athletes. I am not sure they particularly look for athletes, but I would say almost everyone I know played a varsity sport in high school.

swimmergirl - a high percentage of athletes on campus does not necessarily indicate causation for admissions. Rather than ND looking specfically for athletes, it is possible that hs students who are athletes find ND more appealling than non-athletes do. Alternatively, these qualities could also be coincidental - a higher percentage of students at every highly selective college are athletes than the general hs student population. A high percentage of athletes on campus attracts a high percentage of athletes in the applicant pool.

Solved my concern!!
