University of Oklahoma financial supporter accusations

There are 2 separate Facebook posts accusing a financial supporter of the drama department of some pretty heinous activities that have been ignored by the Drama department and the University. Check out the posts by Chandler Corbelle and Stephanie Logan and prepare to be disgusted. We all need to educate our young people about things like this and that it CAN and DOES happen!

It appears that the accusations were made after he had retired and the university had cut ties with him, no?

@alwaysamom from what I can gather he still had contact with the drama department. The young ladies who are making this public now did go to the authorities and were told there was “nothing they could do”. He is under investigation now. After there were several complaints the University had him “retire”. However he still was a big $ donor to the drama dept and (from what these girls have said) the students were still subject to this man taking pictures of them and interacting with him.

Thanks @CMB625 . That wasn’t clear from what I’ve read about it. He sounds like a sick, despicable man.

I agree. Hoping the investigation brings justice!

The problem starts with the harrassment but it’s the college’s response that speaks volumes. The administration is/was obviously pushing students and faculty to keep their mouths shut, both in the past and today. That really gets me hot. I took two schools off my D’s application list due to incidents that called out how those schools’ administrations responded (inadequately) to harrassment or abuse. The responsibility of keeping students safe rests firmly in the hands of a school’s administration. If they shirk that duty to chase after donor dollars, they need to own that and the resulting fallout.

@CaMom13 Exactly! I am infuriated by the blatant disregard for the students well being at the college. This went on for far too long and you can bet that the administration knew what kind of weasel this creep was.

The man, John Scamehorn is obviously mentally ill and should not have been allowed to interact with university students in such a position of authority. This link contains an article about it and also a pdf of his “resignation letter” (you have to click download to read all of it) which is really an attempt to say that all this was made up out of spite because an actress on a film was made at him. The man is clearly disconnected from reality. http://www.oudaily.com/news/ou-emeritus-professor-john-scamehorn-s-former-assistant-reveals-information/article_13e0cd5a-6a8f-11e8-ba76-1f2c01df033c.html?utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=user-share

I didn’t read the above link as being about an actress, but, rather, an actor; however, the letter was somewhat unintelligible (“principle” filimg had been completed?) and did appear to be blame shifting and making excuses. I am not familiar with film-making, but, assuming his assertions are true, why wasn’t he viewing the dailies on a more frequent basis before the situation reached the place it was in when he finally saw the film? Also, what does this have to do with harassing young women? I have never heard that diabetes turns you into a sex fiend (actually, it can do the opposite).

I took Penn State off my children’s college lists after Paterno/Sandusky (that was before I knew how completely unaffordable it is for me) and would not support applications to schools that don’t respond well to claims of harassment, hazing and the like.

Sadly, there are people like this in every walk of life but they seem more prevalent where young people who are desperate for adult approval gather.

@techmom99 the reason he wasn’t viewing the dailies was because he was removed from the filming when he was caught “rubbing” himself during the filming of the hanging scene (young woman being hung). If you do a google search of John Scamehorn, you will find more info about the harassment situation. Also, my original post lists 2 girls names who have publicly (on Facebook) explained in detail all of the harassment.

I wonder if @HopeinMT has seen this thread? I remember how devastated she was when her son got a rejection email from OU. This might make that rejection sting a bit less. I think I would have to pull my kid out - male or female - over this breech of trust.

@CMB - Thank you for the clarification, that makes sense now. How totally disgusting.

Thanks @daughtersdreams this is very interesting!!! I appreciate the tag!!
