Hi,

I will be enrolling at OU in the fall. I was wondering, what OU's nightlife is like. Are there a lot of parties to go to? Are you still able to go to parties if you do not join a fraternity? And also, would you suggest joining a fraternity?

Thanks so much in advance!

I just transferred here and currently live with two sorority girls, a guy in a frat, a veteran, and an independent. From what I understand during your first semester freshman year it may be difficult to find a party not hosted by a frat because the vast majority of upperclassmen live off campus. After your first semester, when you start to meet new people, finding a non frat party is much easier. I live in an off campus apartment, and there are parties going on all the time. OU also sponsors a safe rides program which runs until about 3AM on the weekends meaning that you can easily get to and from off campus parties. I’ve used it a couple of times when I wanted to get back from the bars and it worked wonderfully.

I’ve never been much of a fan of greek life, but many in the system absolutely love it. The reality is, only 25% of OU students go greek, but 25% of 21,000 undergrads is a lot of people. If you opt not to do Greek life, there are still a ton of things to do. Since I haven’t even been here a month, I can’t elaborate, but everyone I’ve talked to, from those that don’t drink to those who binge 2+ times a week claim it’s hard to be bored.
