University of Oregon vs University of Colorado

Any comparisons you can offer me? Trying to decide between the two???

What do you plan on majoring in? That should go a long way in making your decision, albeit it is getting late in the game.

Well I’m currently a Junior in high school, so I don’t 100% know but I just recently payed University of Oregon a college visit and have visited Boulder twice this year so I’ll give u my insights as someone with similar taste  btw sorry this is so long, but i have a lot to say haha!

SO, in terms of academics, both schools aren’t the most prestigous but they definitely aren’t terrible either. University of Oregon has more options in the liberal arts and is very big in journalism, communications, and education- all areas that Boulder either doesnt have (they are getting rid of and/or majorly adjusting the J school) or has very little emphasis on. Boulder is much more into engineering and the sciences.

In terms of everything other than academics, the two schools are VERY similar yet very different. They both have that laid back outdoorsy hippyish feel with amazing restaurants on every corner serving tofu and shops with hookah and tons of coffee places. I have never met nicer people in both places. Both are veryy chill and relaxed and hippyish, something that I love. However, they are a different kind of ‘hippyish’.

Boulder definitely has more wealth than Eugene. The people there are “liberal” yet have tons of wealth. Many kids are rich not gonna lie I am one of them but come on, that doesnt make you snobby and you have to have money to even go there in-state. The hippy guys are mountain men looking but a lot of the girls pull off a “hippy indie” look because of shopping at places like anthro and urban, u can just tell. So basically they are the way they are because of their money. Obviously there’s exceptions, thats just the feel I got. Cost of living in Boulder is 4854358498594 times more expensive too, however there is shopping and much more to do it seems so the expense is with good reason.

Eugene is more natural hippy, sure there are those greeks everywhere with money but at Eugene it’s more down to Earth. It seems like Boulder revolves around parties as well as school spirit but Eugene has more of that old fashioned spirit where 80 year olds go to the games.

I hear greek life at UO is dry, where Boulder has a good compromise… it’s not dominating but it’s definitely there, even tho it’s frowned upon.

Weather in Oregon imo sucks. I love rain being from AZ, but months without sun would drive me insane. CO gets sunshine 300 days a year with snow, and rain, and seasons  I could not ask for better weather.

Personally, no matter how shallow this makes me look, I could never live in Eugene. It was way too laid back for me, and in my two times visiting Boulder, felt the perfect mix of friendliness but still felt the presence of … idk… style? and excitement like I’m used to and want in my college experience.

Theres much more flak on the college forums and such about CU, because it’s considered “snobby” and “filled with drugs” but thats just people’s opinion. College is what you make it, and coming from Snobbsdale, AZ people in Boulder were angels :)

Hope this helps!!! Make your own opinion! Everyone’s is different :)

Depending on your major it may not matter, but U of O does not have an engineering school. One of the few state flagship campuses that does not so they lean more towards the humanities overall.
