Hi everyone,
I am currently a California resident attending a community college, and planning on transferring to the University of Oregon. I will not be receiving help from my parents, and I cannot afford the $40,000 for out of state tuition.
I am planning on moving to Oregon for a year to work, without attending school, and applying for residency after a consecutive 12 months of stay. In this case tuition would be affordable for me. Is the idea of taking a year off after 2 years at CC reasonable, and would it be harder to get in after taking a year off before applying?
I am very dedicated and not worried in the least that I will not be able to get back into the swing of school after taking a year off, my education is extremely important and I will not let myself slack.

I don’t think being out of school a year between CCC and UO will make a difference.

I’m from OR, so just be sure you understand that we have many of the same fiscal problems as the CA publics, which causes difficulty in getting necessary courses, increasing tuition every year, etc. Not trying to dissuade you, UO is a great school, just be sure you understand all of the circumstances before you make the move.
