University of Pennsylvania Class of 2014 Official ED Decision Thread

How do they notify?

The Penn portal notifications go out the same day the letters are mailed.

December 11, 2009 3 pm EST

i got my likely letter last week, i am jacked and relieved

I will create a new version of this thread in 4 days, the day before our results roll in. That way we can have a clean thread. Don’t create the thread I will we don’t want duplicates.

Be sure to notify applicants that nothing but results should be posted in that thread. Chitchat can go somewhere else. Hell, even make another thread for it, so you discourage people from cluttering the results thread.

how do you get a likely letter?!?!

Actually, I think I will create it the day before the results roll in. That way there will be less frivolous posts.

Does Penn give out likely letters for ED? I thought the point of likely letters was to be like “Hey, you’re pretty much in, so don’t go thinking about other schools.” I assume that wouldn’t be a problem ED with the binding contract and all.

^He (or she) is a ■■■■■. Penn stopped giving likely letters for ED years ago. Maybe it was some informational thing that u got?

Hey Atypical, you sound like a jealous D-bag! I am sitting here with my LL in hand, be careful who u call a ■■■■■.

Well… I think Atypical is just being little dubious about the fact that you got the Likely Letter as I am right now too… I mean :stuck_out_tongue: I dunno lol…

Is there anyone else who got LL ?

Pics or it didn’t happen.

some schools send out likely’s though. maybe penn sends them out.

I’m not saying he’s not a ■■■■■. Idk
But athletes can get them (because they have to announce where they’re going to play sports before decisions are released).

Like football (I know national signing is in a couple months but it’s an example) players would have to say if they are going to play for USC or whatever. Penn would send them a likely letter so they know they’re accepted and aren’t forced to commit to USC just in case they’re rejected at Penn.
Think that’s how it works in the ed round.

Wow I did a horrible job explaining

yeah i think athletes are in a different boat. I don’t think they send likelys for us regular kidzz:/

… So trollzy.

Yes, the LL concept was developed to communicate the schools desire to have you attend. The intent is to satisfy the exceptional applicant so he/she will not pursue other academic options. It’s result most certainly eases the mind of the applicant and I feel it is a classy way to show commitment in the sometimes uncertain realm of collegiate athletic recruiting.

O.O Likely letters? what?
if you’re not an athlete, is it likely (lol) that you should get one, or not?
Cause I know I’ve gotten like three more letters encouraging me to apply from UPenn… weeks after I turned in the app… Partially cause I was at a summer camp there this summer, so I’m still on their mailing list.

No, this is a letter from, and signed by Dean Furda. It is not informational or “encouraging”, it is the real deal. A ticket to paradise so to speak.

Maybe, but i also got a letter signed by Furda in blue ink. I highly doubt it is a likely letter (I have never played a JV sport let alone a varsity sport in my life). The wording as well not in the likely letter form. It was just a congratulations on academic achievement blah blah blah apply letter. There is a HUGE difference bro. One means you are in,the other means nothing.
