I was just accepted to transfer to CAS as a junior. This is wild; I will post stats veryyyy soon!

Congrats to all who made it. For all those who didn’t, please whatever you do, make the absolute most out of your time where you are. Celebrate your friendships and follow your passions. I’m sure a lot of you are probably very focused and busy students, but make sure to give yourselves credit for your hard work and to reward yourselves for all that you do. Life is a crazy journey and this is one small piece of it!

Rejected (SEAS) Sophomore Transfer

Major: Biomedical Engineering (Pre-Vet)
GPA: 3.63 (I know it’s low, but it’s engineering)
SAT: 2250
SAT II: Physics 730, Math II 740

Captain of Soccer and Wrestling teams in High School, Science Olympiad with state medals, played in band for 4 years (head drummer), school musical. Continued doing similar things in college.

I just wanna know why they made these decisions. Like even a sentence of “essay was bad” would be helpful.

@under32graduate I gave up on that. Sometimes it’s not that you are not good enough, but many outshine you and me and maybe we are just not good fits. Or it could be AO straight up screwed up. We don’t know and we don’t have to. There are so many better things out there and most importantly don’t let the decision define you.

@under32graduate I wish they included something like that in the application. I feel like calling tomorrow morning and finding out what I could’ve done better or need to improve on, but I’m not sure if that’s good etiquette?

Rejected!

@missevelyng You probably won’t get a straight answer; it’s usually just some really confusing rhetoric that can’t be applied to anything. You realistically have nothing to lose at this point, though.

@IvyLeague2 No offense dude, you came on just a littleeeeeeee too strong. I know you’re looking forward to next year, but you literally have almost 10 whole months to work on and complete your applications.

At this point I feel like college acceptance is all about who can write the better essay that appeals to emotion. At least if I got feedback from my first rejection in high school I would have been able to change something for the transfer application. I tried to do my best in College and write a very honest essay as to why I want to transfer but I guess pathos > logos.

I guess this just means that I need to work even harder and become someone that UPenn regrets not taking in. Good luck to all those who haven’t checked their decisions yet.

Accepted as a junior transfer to CAS.

From: Public College Honors Program
GPA: 3.98 (midterm report 4 A and 1 A-)
SAT: 2270 (only took it once)
SAT II: 770 (Math II)
APs: Calc AB (5), Envi Sci (4)
Major: Mathematical Economics
Also applied to: Columbia, Brown, Yale. (Still waiting on all their decisions.)
Hooks: Just that I’m gay. Other than that, I’m white, middle class, and live in a major US city.

College ECs: Treausurer and founder of LGBTQ+ Alliance club, music arranger and singer for a cappella group, mentor for freshmen in my honors program, webmaster for Circle K international service club (got awards for outstanding webmaster and outstanding website for the entire state). I had 1 internship that involved data analytics and graphic modeling.

High School ECs: chorus (received an award), I was in 2 operas and 2 musicals, opera club, received an outstanding math award.

Reason for transferring: huge lack of research opportunities at my school. Not a cohesive campus community and I really have been wanting that from college.

Congrats to those who got in! I was rejected again but at least I can move on (: @missevelyng

I did that last time I was rejected and they told me that they don’t disclose that information.
@CharlieTheTankEngine I doubt it. I wrote a really pathos driven essay that connected to the reason I wanted to transfer but wasn’t accepted either. I have a 3.7 GPA (which would’ve been a 3.9+ if it wasn’t for extraneous circumstances affecting me on one quarter, which I also explained). I think they’re looking for something specific when it comes to essays, pathos or not. Unfortunately I wasn’t what they were looking for.
