Hey, I just received a letter from the University of Pittsburgh stating that they want to wait for my mid year grades before making a decision on my application. Although my SAT scores aren’t the best (1180 out of 1600), my gpa is a 3.8 and I am ranked 9 out of 320. Also I am a part of extracurricular activities such as Student Council and National Honor Society and I have taken 5 AP courses. What do you think my chances are of getting accepted?
- I applied for the College of Business Admin.
Hi, I received the same letter a couple months ago. I did take the SAT again a few weeks ago and did bring up my score from 1170 to 1300. I was wondering the same thing. I did send them to Pitt and my GPA is up slightly as well. I think they want to see some improvement and continued interest?
That’s great, good luck!
@dancergirl1029 it is for sure not a bad thing! They just want to make sure that you’re continuing to work hard and achieve great grades! If your grades/GPA are better than last year then you have a great chance! If you have maintained your same GPA that’s not a bad thing either. Best of luck!
My Daughter received the same request. While she continues to work hard and her grades might actually go up slightly, she was wondering whether this was PITT’s polite way of deferring her since others have already been accepted in the meantime ???
^ I think it is a polite way of saying, we have some concerns (maybe from earlier years?) - you can prove us wrong by maintaining your current grades and not slipping.
@Pops4ryan, It is not an automatic precursor to any specific kind of admissions decision, the Admissions Committee would simply like to get a little more academic information before making a final decision. Hope that helps clarify!
Best of luck!

Thanks hailtopitt1787. Midterms finish tomorrow so hopefully her Half Year grades can be sent out by her guidance counselor early next week !!!
DAMN…wait-listed…guess PITT is officially OFF the list…does anyone actually accept the possibility of being accepted into the Spring of 2018 instead of the Fall of 2017…very disappointing…the very first college visit by my OOS Daughter…did not turn out the way we had hoped…
