University of Pittsburgh Class of 2012 Decision Thread

Everyone is receiving these full tuition scholarships and such. I only got 10,000 a year and accepted into Honors College + Guaranteed Dental Program...

Here are some of my stats:

SAT 1400/2080
GPA: 4.0/4.0 (Unweighted) | 5.87/6.0 (Weighted)
Rank: Salutatorian (2/550)

Submitted Essay, portfolio, 3 recs

Coming from a large public high school with a competitive medical science magnet program

Typical ECs but extensive research and studies in 3 dental internships and 1 cardiology internship (over 2 years).

350+ Hours of volunteering at a hospital

Ack... would really love to attend Pitt, but with only 10,000 it's highly unlikely!

I know the feeling. I really, really want to attend Pitt, but I'm getting worried. I got the same as you pretty much.

What are your stats Chrys?

wait, $10,000 / year... thats almost full tuition

not if you are OOS 08, its 20k, so the 10k would be half (still imo, nothing to complain about)

jon62690, how did you get a Guaranteed Dental Program???? I've never heard of a college that did that lol

Well being OOS also adds costs in transportation, plus higher cost of living, room and board, plus OOS tuition. So really, I'd still have to spend around 20,000 a year (which is way too much even if my EFC says I can afford it).

As for the guaranteed dental program:
There are a LOT of universities and dental schools that have joint programs and affiliations that allow anywhere from 1-25 high school students to gain admission into dental school under an accelerated program (6/7 years) or a standard program (8 years). So it ultimately saves you from the pressure of applying to dental schools and may save you a year of college.

Yeah, OOS messes things up.

My stats aren't quite as good as yours: 33 ACT, 4.0 unweighted, 4.2 weighted, 1390/2130 SAT, good essay, small rural school in NE Ohio.

ohhh i get it

lol, I was thinking like free dental care or dentist visits lol

Was finally accepted after they asked for my semester grades back in November.

Does anyone know how far away Forbes Honors Residence is from Market Central?

Does anyone know what Pitt does for National Merit Finalists (selecting Pitt as school of choice) ? I got an email from the admissions office which referred to -3- scholarships... but it wasn't clear whether this meant JUST -3- individuals getting scholarships... or actually 3 scholarship programs... perhaps from which many NMF students might benefit. Just looking for a little more money. :)

My D was a NMF last year. She was offered full tuition before she knew she was a finalist The scholarship was based on her GPA and SAT scores. Pitt did not give her any additional money for picking Pitt as her first choice school.

i think they sponsor about 3-5 NMFs per year...

To those that were offered full tuition scholarship, is the mandatory fees included in the scholarship?

^^^No, but the fees don't seem to be too expensive on their own (but they do add up). Still, they're not as high as the ones at some other state colleges. For example, the College of William and Mary has a $1,600 "general fee" that is tacked on in addition to tuition each semester, and there are other fees too.

The Pitt computer/network fee is $150; security and transportation fee is $90 (that allows you to ride all of Pittsburgh public transit for free); activity fee is $80, and the health fee is $65. These are all per semester.

Is there a deadline that I have to reply to the school by if I got a scholarship? Do I have to respond by an earlier date than other applicants?
