University of Pittsburgh-Class of 2019 Acceptance

@chistan, the interviews typically happen around the end of February/beginning of March. All students who apply for the Chancellor’s Scholarship will be notified of the committee’s decision regarding their application by April 15th at the latest.

My son Is very happy to be admitted to Swanson '15, guaranteed admission to grad school, honors qualified, in late September or early October. OOS, private school 3.81 UW at a school where nobody gets a 4.0 and they don’t rank the students, very challenging academic curriculum. 2290 SAT, 800 Math2, 770 Bio, 720 Physics, AB Calc 5, AP Bio 5, AP English 5, currently taking BC Calc AP Physics C-Mechanics, Spanish tutor, speech team, service with high-needs elementary school students, Ultimate frisbee team, taekwondo 3 dan, going for Master in spring, jazz drummer, lifeguard. Loves Pitt, wants to attend, anxious about scholarship because we won’t get aid and cannot affordable OOS. Have called, and were told we should hear soon, mid-November, but could be as late as March. He has visited, toured, has sibling attending… I hope we hear something soon. Besides sending midyear grades, which we get this week, is there anything else he should do to help him be considered for merit aid?

@hailtopitt1787 - is the invitation to participate in honors classes in the initial acceptance letter? I just scanned my son’s letter and there is no mention of eligibility for enrolling in honors classes as you indicated in a prior response. We’ve received several pieces of mail since but all generic information (e.g. reasons why Pitt is a good value).

@hailtopitt1787‌ Thank you!

@singermom4, honors eligibility should be indicated in the initial letter, yes. A student who is not automatically eligible as an incoming freshman can still seek permission to enroll in honors courses, or sophomores who maintain a 3.25 GPA in their first year at Pitt will be eligible to enroll in honors classes as well.

The full detailed information on eligibility is here! http://www.honorscollege.pitt.edu/course-eligibility

@hailtopitt1787, what functionality does the “My Pitt” portal provide in the admissions process? Or is it only used once a student enrolls. My senior was accepted several wks ago, but all that the portal says under 'application status" is that application is complete. Will any finan. aid or merit offers (if any) be listed there eventually? Thanks for any info you can share!

my.pitt.edu is where you can go to make sure your application materials are received and your application status is complete. No actual decision will be posted there.

Once a student is enrolled, they will be able to access the following services on the portal:
-Grades
-Class Schedules
-Class Rosters
-Online Registration
-Outside the Classroom Curriculum
-CourseWeb
-Library Resources
-iTunes U

Okay, thank you very muchfor the quick answer!

We got a letter dated December 1 today and my daughter was awarded the full tuition scholarship and invited to apply for the Chancellor’s Scholarship! I am so happy and thankful that she is now able to attend her fist choice school. Hail to Pitt! She also applied for the Stamps Scholarship back in October.

Congratulations to you and your daughter. That’s something wonderful to celebrate!

Thank you @momster32!

Your son is definitely a great candidate, @momster32! I hope you will receive good news soon!

@mommdc ; Congrats. What is your daughter SAT/ACT score? We are still waiting…

Thank you @harrisburg, I know it is hard to wait. Her SAT CR&M was 1550.

Thank you mommdc. We race to the mailbox every evening to check. I am definitely getting fitter from all the exercise! Hoping to hear something good, Pitt is his top choice also. The opportunities at Pitt are priceless. His older brother was fortunate to participate in Breckenridge fellowship and learned a lot.

Accepted to Dietrich school of arts and sciences!! I hope this gives hope to a few of you who are on the line of getting in or not.
Stats:
3.57/4 W GPA. Only took 5 honors classes up until junior year then took 3 honors and 2 AP this year. Didn’t send my first quarter grades. This was the main thing I was worried about
2060 Composite SAT
750M 670R 640W
Essay: ehh
Letters of rec: decent I’m assuming
ECs (not sure if these even made a difference considering there wasn’t a spot to specifically write about them on the app): class treasurer (9-12) lacrosse (9-12) project manhood and SADD club (11-12)
Sent my app in around the last week of November heard back today through a video they emailed me.

@hailtopitt1787‌ My daughter got accepted 11/8/14 and also considered for honor college but we did not get any scholarship yet (OOS). Can you please update the situation?

@lotusg, Our Scholarship Committee meets weekly and makes decisions on scholarships. If you have not heard yet, there is no reason to worry. Due to the competitiveness of the scholarships, some students go through two, sometimes three, reviews before a final decision is made. While some students find out about a scholarship quite early, possibly within three weeks of being admitted, many more do not find out until much later. Bottom line, those students selected to receive an award will find out no later than March 1st.

So I got accepted into Pitt Honors for Pre-med, and I have a few questions.

1) On my letter it says that I got in for Pre-Med, but I know that you can’t major in Pre-Med, so when and how will I declare my major if I attend Pitt?

2) I am really targeting the 8-yr guaranteed med program at Pitt, and wanted to know if I would have a chance with my stats and EC’s, and also when I will be notified if I should apply for the program or not?

SAT combined CR + M: 1500+
Subject Tests: Math 2C 750+, Chem 700+
GPA 3.9+
Ranking Top 3%
EC - community service - library/hospital/senior-citizen home, internships, sports, music, clubs, and National/Spanish/Music Honor Society.
Rec Letter: Very good teacher recs

3) With these stats, what would be my chances for merit scholarships?

@hailtopitt1787 I have not received anything about merit and I am concerned. I applied for the Priority Decision as well but I got my acceptance in November because my SAT scores from October came late. Merit Chances?
