@Chelsey123
Congrats on yor acceptance!!! I was hoping (and knew) that you would eventually get in I’ve just been accepted too! What’s your intended major?

I had everything in on September 22 and got my acceptance to the pre-PA program and honors college 2 weeks later! Does anyone know if getting into the honors college means merit scholarship or not?

When will I find out about getting into the honors college? I have a 33 ACT and a top 3-4% class rank, so I qualify, right?

I got my acceptance letter about a week ago.

My son’s Pitt admission letter states “I am pleased to inform you that you have been accepted for admission to the University of Pittsburgh and that you are also eligible to participate in the University Honors College” so I do not expect anything further about getting into the Honors College. I think for Pitt, eligibility to take Honors classes is the same as “getting into” the Honors College. He did receive a letter one week later from the Dean of the University Honors College encouraging him to take Honors classes.

@akacesfan Does your letter not state that? I think that even if you are not immediately deemed eligible for Honors classes, you can still petition to take them. But I would think you would be already eligible based on your ACT and rank.

@youw15h Being eligible to take Honors College classes means you will be considered for scholarships based on the same GPA and scores criteria that make you eligible to take Honors College classes . However, it does NOT mean you will be awarded a merit scholarship. From all I have read on CC, Pitt has become very competitive for merit scholarships and a 34 ACT may or may not be high enough. It also seems to depend on class rank and diversity criteria (gender in some colleges, minority, and geographic diversity). They may also require higher scores/rank some colleges (engineering for example) because there seems to be an effort to distribute the awards among colleges.

@STEMFamily it’s actually funny, because today, I got my letter inviting me to the Honors College today! Thanks a ton! :)

@Sumjonas, a Pitt Admissions and Financial Aid staffer here, once your application was received and processed you should have received details about how to go online and check your status (especially tracking whether we got everything).
D was accepted last week and the acceptance letter stated that a formal letter would follow regarding the Honors College. Today that letter arrived and I must say I am very impressed with the school and the opportunities that are available.

@hailtopitt1787 , if we applied for consideration for pre-dentistry with the priority application, will our decisions take longer than the three weeks? My application has been showing complete since October 8th if that matters.

Just got into pitt today, I sent my transcript out october 6th

Stats:
GPA: 4.2
Rank: 16/360
SAT: 1850
going to premed/ molecular bio

@RFAtoIVY, there has been a large influx of applications so it could take a little longer than three weeks for you to hear back. If everything is showing as complete, you should be fine. We are sorry for the delays. Our admissions committee is working hard to give each application the most timely and holistic consideration they can!

Applied on 10/12 to School of Arts and Science
ACCEPTED on 10/22 (Letter received on 10/27)

I’ve heard some people mention that some students are exempt from taking certain basic course requirements at Pitt and I had a few questions. For example, I heard that if you have 3 consecutive years of a language, you can be exempt from taking a language. I also heard that if you get above a 600 on SAT Math, you can be exempt from a preliminary algebra course. I was wondering if you could tell me what course exemptions are offered along with their requirements. Thanks again for all of your help!

@Chelsey123 I’m sure they have lots more info but this might help to get you started. http://www.as.pitt.edu/fac/teaching/general-requirements

My daughter is on pins and needles. She submitted her application on on 9/14, got an e-mail on 9/25 saying it is complete - ACTs, transcript and LoRs.

Since then nothing! Not even a response to the reply e-mail she sent asking for an update.

On-line status only confirms the it was submitted on 9/14 and is complete.

Is the fact that we are OOS a factor in the timing of a response?? Is there any other possible explanation for the delay??

@adkdad Hi, we are OOS and my son’s application was complete as of 10/14 as well. We are still waiting to hear. Don’t worry, see yesterday’s comment from hailtopitt1787. Hopefully we’ll hear something by next week.

@adkdad Oops sorry! Just saw your date as 9/14 and I was focused on our 10/14. But again, think they are pretty busy…

@adkdad. S OOS app showed complete on 10/8 and he received the acceptance letter in the mail yesterday dated 10/22, so a 2 week turn around which seems pretty typical from what others have reported. Maybe it depends on the school applied to?
