Since this group is essential throughout our application process, I thought of starting one!
Have you started applying yet?
I havenātā¦ Do you know when is it starting?
@daffyduck414 and @John Thomas, the fall 2018 application will open later this month. We will send an email to prospective students on our contact list and post on @pittadmissions social media when it is live!

@hailtopitt1787 Iām not able to access the Essay topics, will you be able to share that here?
The freshman Short Answer Questions can be found on our website here: https://oafa.pitt.edu/apply/admissions-process/freshmen/
Copied and pasted from the page link above:
Short Answer Questions
In lieu of an essay or personal statement, we ask interested applicants to answer a series of short answer questions. Answering the following questions is optional, but strongly encouraged. If you would like to be considered for University academic scholarships, you must submit a response to at least one of the Short Answer Questions. Your answers may increase the likelihood that you are considered for guaranteed admission to graduate or professional school or given special consideration due to extenuating circumstances. The Admissions Committee reviews responses for quality rather than length. However, the most effective responses typically range from 200-300 words per question. Responses that are longer or shorter are acceptable. You may choose to answer any or all of the following questions:
- Describe a challenge that you think you will face in college and how you anticipate handling the challenge.
- How have you made an impact at your high school? Choose one example and tell us about it.
- Pitt receives nearly 30,000 applications each year. What makes you unique?
In order to submit your responses to the Short Answer Questions, you must first complete University of Pittsburgh application. If you have already completed the application, you may complete the Short Answer Questions online.
If you plan to apply to Pitt as a transfer or international student, you will be asked to complete a different set of questions. So make sure these questions are the right ones for your application!

My son talked to admissions - the opening date appears to be July 27.
@hailtopitt1787 just for clarification on the essay portion of the Pitt application, only those short answer questions r used and there arenāt any supplemental prompts and such? Also is answering all 3 recommended?
Thanks!
@TrackRunner445, You do not need to answer all three questions. Those are the only questions we use!

@hailtopitt1787 what is included in the application?
Do you have to apply separately for honors college?
@aj1177, To apply to Pitt, you will need to fill out our online application which asks you for some demographic information and your educational background. You will also have the opportunity to fill in our Self Reported Academic Record (recommended) which replaces a mailed transcript and goes into detail about each class you have taken. The optional Short Answer Questions can also be filled out right within our online application - these are necessary if youād like to be considered for scholarships, and also highly recommended to help the admissions committee learn more about you as they review your materials. In addition to the application, you will be asked to pay a $45 application fee and send your official ACT/SAT test results. You can find more information at oafa.pitt.edu/apply
A separate application is not required for the University Honors College. The UHC is not a membership only organization, students are free to choose their level of involvement in the UHC. In order to be automatically eligible to enroll in University Honors College coursework as an incoming freshman, we are looking for a combined SAT math and critical reading score of 1450 or a 32 ACT composite, an āAā average in a challenging high school curriculum, and a top 5% class rank (if applicable). Transfer applicants are reviewed on an individual basis. You can find more information at honorscollege.pitt.edu

@hailtopitt1787 what are the middle 50% range for SAT and GPA?
You can find our fall 2017 class profile here: https://oafa.pitt.edu/explore/class-profile/
The middle 50% for SAT is 1260-1400. We encourage students to retake any class in which they get a āCā or below and 95% of the fall 2017 freshmen took at least one advanced level course in high school (AP, IB, College in High School, etc).
Hope that helps,
A Pitt Admissions Staffer
hailtopitt1787 - do you have a link to the SAT-ACT concordance tables that Pitt uses to convert ACT composite scores to SAT scores? Specifically, I am trying to convert a 31 ACT composite to the equivalent SAT score. Thanks!
We get that info from the College Board. Here is a link with more information:
https://research.collegeboard.org/programs/sat/data/concordance
Hope that helps!

@hailtopitt1787 My son is excited about submitting his application to Pitt. The first-choice on his list of eight. His father is a graduate of the University some 30 years ago but his alumni contributions over the years are minimal. Does the admissions committee really dig deep into this kind of information? Can it downgrade his scholarship opportunities? 32 ACT GPA 4.2
@sharples99, Glad to hear your son is so excited to apply to Pitt!
Amount of money donated does not come into the equation for the Admissions or Scholarship review at all.
Hope that helps clarify!

Are the apps coming out today?
Hello! We will announce when the app is open. It is not coming out today.

I was looking at my D18ās college list in the Coalition App just now and the āStart Applicationā box is enabled. Does this mean that the application can be started?
