University of Pittsburgh Class of 2022

@m2msoccer, That question about relatives who are alumni is for potential legacy scholarship opportunities. If a student is applying and would like to let us know that they have siblings who are current students at Pitt, they are welcome to add that information to their Short Answer Question responses.

@hailtopitt1787 - thanks for the info! In hindsight I’m wishing we would have called and asked more questions about what Pitt wanted to see in the short answer questions. She definitely touched on some of her activities where it was applicable to her response and did slip in a comment about her brother being a Pitt student but she didn’t use the questions to take the place of a resume. Thanks for all your responsiveness!

I applied on 7/31 and still haven’t heard any decision yet… I am getting very nervous seeing everyone! CONGRATS TO ALL!!

@m2msoccer, From what you are describing - it sounds like she answered the questions just fine. We don’t expect them to replace a resume, just an opportunity to get to know each student a little better.

@hailtopitt1787 are the applications looked at in the order of being received?

@swellman, As much as possible, yes. But decisions may be delayed if the Committee wants to review an application multiple times or they need more information from the applicant before making a decision, so you may not hear back before someone who applied a little later than you.

We work hard to get decisions out to everyone as quickly as possible while also taking the time to give each applicant a fair review.

Hope that helps!

would it be beneficial to email a list of activities/extracurriculars if they can’t fit into the short answer questions? also, as an applicant with an extreme upward trend, would a letter from a guidance counselor be necessary? thanks in advance!

Find out who is your admission counselor at PITT and send her email requesting your resume and any other awards you received in the pdf document to attach to your application. Those documents will be part of your application package if you believe it is going to help. Good Luck.

@winky1 was correct. My D17 got his acceptance yesterday to his choice, Dietrich A&S. He’s very excited.

Thanks to @hailtopitt1787 for great info and support.

Congrats @BoroDad ! Stats so similar to my D who was accepted yesterday as well. Such a wonderful thing to have that confidence boost from such a great institution like Pitt. I have to say @hailtopitt1787 having questions answered so thoroughly on here along with the wonderful visit we had back in June, you guys really know how to take care of your prospective students. By far it was our favorite and most thorough college visit.

Hi All, just wanted to chime in with the great news that my D was accepted to the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences!!! Got her email this afternoon. Applied 8/21 for those still waiting. Best of luck and congratulations to those who have heard. Very great news.

Hi all, I have a quick question. How would you enter Algebra 2/Trig into your coursework? My school grades based on semesters, so would you do Algebra 2 first semester and Trig second semester? Thank you!

Yes, @loveyourselfher. That is exactly whathe I’d do.

@Eagle70 , my daughter wants to study neuroscience as well!

Any body who applied 8/31 got any notification yet.

Based on the stat posted so far the acceptance is going out to top applicants first? Is that correct?

@Sgmom17 i don’t believe that is the case… i think they process applications as they come in but they are backed up to the point where it seems random now.

My D applied to Dietrich on 8/14 so I’m starting to get nervous seeing that later applicants have received their acceptance emails. Does anyone know if a student is waitlisted or declined, will that be sent via email or snail mail?

@m2msoccer I applied on 8/14 as well and I haven’t heard anything yet either. I applied to the school of nursing.

@alliestaman22 many who have been accepted seem to have very high stats and while my D is definitely a fit for Pitt, her scores aren’t as high as some of the others so I’m wondering if that’s delaying her response. I wish you luck!!
