Got accepted to Dietrich! Applied September 25th, buttons changed the 2nd, got email on the 5th, and snail mail today. So excited!!
When I applied I had to select a term: I was confused whether I should select fall 2018 or fall 2019, since they were both options. It not specify if you were selecting term of application or term of enrollment. I chose fall 2019 and am not sure if my application did not go where it should go. Did anyone come across similar confusion.
If I use the common application to apply to Pitt will I later be able to use the mobile app to track the of the status of my application or would I have to use Pitts original application?
Hi everyone! I submitted my app last week, which I know is later than most of all of you I found this thread and I was wondering whether you guys think I have a shot at getting some good merit aid? I think my scores are ok, but mainly I’m worried about my ECs since I don’t have as many science ones as some people. What do you think?

@shadowlaxer123, We ask you to select the time you plan to enroll at Pitt! So if you want to start classes in fall 2019, you are good to go!
@hew100, Yes - our technology help desk should send you a link to check the status of your application regardless of the platform you use to apply!

@SG2468 Pitt is very, very focused on stats with respect to merit aid, and those stats are determined for each college based on their applicant pools. I suspect that Swanson may have a slightly higher average SAT/ACT scores than the overall average that Pitt posts, but that’s pure speculation. In previous years, a 34 ACT composite seemed to be the minimum for merit aid, so I suspect that you’ll receive a decent offer.
@SG2468 I hope you not only get merit, but the opportunity to apply for the chancellor’s scholarship.
When I check the app, I am getting that there are no pending application at this time? Does that mean it is still being processed?
@hailtopitt1787 , does Pitt require SAT with essay? DS will be taking SAT in Dec and we want to make sure we add on essay if needed.
@SincererLove, We do not require the SAT essay. Good luck on the Dec SAT!

@hailtopitt1787 hello, do you know how long in general it will take for PITT to make a final decision after re-evaluating the application after receiving new SAT scores? The October scores come out on the 19th so when can I expect a final decision?
Hi, I know this question’s been asked before numerous times, but I applied with the common app on september 26 and I haven’t gotten a decision yet. Is there a time frame for applications submitted in late september? Also, on the app, when I click on admissions, it says accept and decline admissions, but when I click on that it just says “You do not have any pending applications at this time”
Son got accepted in Swanson by snail mail on 13 Oct 2018. Large Pitt blue envelope with 2 sheets. He applied 29 Sep using Pitt application. Very happy, hope the right $ amount will follow since OOS.
Congrats, @whatisfafsa and other admits! We are also out of state and daughter has applied for engineering. Pitt is in her top three schools. She applied Sept 20 - app says “you have no applications pending.” Hoping for good news and soon!
In case anyone can comment, in addition to being OOS, female and hoping for Swanson, she has 4.25 weighted which is listed as 97.1 numerically - weighted (our school’s transcript does not list unweighted). 6 APs, 30 on ACT, a semester abroad during high school (international program followed the course load and direct syllabi of our home high school), NHS, several other national honor societies (math, English, world language), good extracurriculars but no athletics.
Any thoughts? It’s so exciting - I’m getting anxious and I’m just the mom! LOL
Thanks and good luck to all!!!
@thatOneJewishGuy, Our general rule of thumb is 4-6 weeks from the date the application is considered complete. If your application - so you don’t have anything to worry about in terms of timing. You should hear from us very soon via email/letter. We don’t post admissions decision directly in the portal.
@2019collegeTGL, It could take a few weeks for us to review your application again and get a decision back to you. Thanks for your pateince!
@RabbiBeth Chances are pretty good for admission, but you won’t see any merit aid. D was accepted last year into Swanson with a 30 ACT, 1410 SAT, 4.0 UW GPA and 7 APs. We are also OOS and full-pay.
Due to scheduling conflicts she wasn’t able to take Physics her senior year, and Pitt noted in her acceptance that they generally don’t accept students into Swanson that haven’t taken Physics, so that’s something that I would recommend any Swanson applicant to make sure they address.
I applied September 3rd and still have yet to hear back. I’ve been checking my mail, my email and the app and there are no new notifications or changes to the status. Pitt is my number one school and I’m trying to relax but do I have any reason to be concerned?
@hailtopitt1787 , since every school gives different weight for AP and Honors classes, how Pitt evaluate the weighted GPAs? Do they recalculate it for every applicant ?
Thank you
@shortnuke , congrats on your daughter! Thanks for sharing your experiences. Bummer no merit aid but glad your daughter was accepted. Does she enjoy the school? Our daughter did take AP Physics as a junior, so that’s good. This year for science, she’s in AP Chemistry (and two other APS, plus Calculus - Calc is non-AP). Hoping for great news!! Sounds like a fabulous school.
@bsms2018, We have a system for comparing and reviewing GPAs from all over the world, taking into account each school’s systems for calculating GPA. Good luck on the application process!
