University of Pittsburgh Class of 2023 Discussion Thread

Hi everyone!

@fdha951, I doubt this is a mistake but it would be good for you to verify with your enrollment manager to make sure your letter did not get lost: https://oafa.pitt.edu/esm_directory.php

@Ponogirl808 yes, @MdgmMom is correct. You will still be reviewed!

@collegeIZrubbish, anyone who applied by December 15 is automatically considered for merit scholarships.

@s9841210, as long as your application was marked ‘complete’ by December 15 you will still be considered for merit scholarships.

Good luck everyone!!

Anxiously waiting to hear back about interview for PA GAP. Have those invitations gone out already?

@hailtopitt1787 I was asked to submit mid year grades for more information about myself. If I had a councilor send in a letter of rec from a teacher in December, will that be reviewed at all in making my final decision?

Hello @college1919,

The Admissions Committee typically prefers to read your Short Answers to get to know you better, but if the recommendation letter is needed to provide context on a special circumstance then they will definitely take it into consideration. I hope this helps, good luck!

@hailtopitt1787 -hello. My son updated his SRAR on Friday to show his semester grades. How long does it usually take to receive a decision? Thanks!

@hailtopitt1787, are students supposed to update their SRARs with mid-year grades? My D filled it out when she applied, but our school automatically sends mid-year reports to schools. Now that she’s been accepted, is it okay to let the school send them, or do you still prefer the SRAR? Thanks.

Are scholarships still being sent out?

Hello,

@momofthree321, it takes 4-6 weeks to receive a decision from the day his application was marked ‘complete’. Updating his SRAR should not change this timeline.

@MdgmMom, students are only required to send mid-year grades if they are requested from our Admissions Committee. Otherwise, the committee will use the SRAR as the primary academic record and since your daughter has already been admitted it is not necessary to send those mid-year grades unless she is asked to.

hi, does anyone know if you are not admitted to your first choice major, will you be denied admission totally or can you be considered for other majors / schools?

@hailtopitt1787 if I’m going to attend honors day should I still attend an admitted students day?

Hi @conflicted101,

No, you do not have to attend an Admitted Student Day. Sometimes students aren’t able to make Honors Day so they have the option of attending either or. Congrats on your admittance!

Are the financial aid awards and the merit/scholarships awards separate? How do you know if you’re awarded any scholarships?

Scholarship awards usually come in a letter sometime after acceptance to the university. The financial award will have the merit award listed as well as other lines regarding grants, loans, work study etc. if applicable.

Alright, because some are saying the scholarships come at a separate time so I was confused.

@hailtopitt1787 Was accepted to PITT on 10/29 got an email today (no letter) that i was given a Panther Pride Award of 7K a year. That will really come in handy. Gets the cost down to reasonable. So excited! They had a link to the award accept/decline page… is this my merit award? It seems like it, they just never called it that. And the email wasnt as flowery as other schools… Thanks!

i got in 11/8, and haven’t heard about any scholarships. i know they say you can hear up to march 1st but its starting to get me really anxious because I just received my financial aid package and got no need-based or merit aid I only got loans… is there any way to negotiate merit aid? I have many offers from similar schools for 10k merit aid because I’m oos, and since pitt is my #1, I really really want to go there and it would be amazing if pitt could match these other schools is possible?

@ZeeMeZeeYou no, this is not a merit award but an institutional grant and part of your financial aid package. Congrats!

I was deferred, and my school just sent first semester grades, does anyone when I’ll hear back?
