University of Pittsburgh Class of 2023 Discussion Thread

@pittsburghscribe the engineering students who have already completed AP Calc BC, AP Physics (calc based) and AP Chem have an easier go of it first year than those who don’t.

Mine was in full IB and decided on engineering later in the game. She never had AP Physics or AP Chem so freshman year was a rather brutal transition. She was used to hard work and a rigorous curriculum, but essentially 19 hours of all rigorous curriculum was a lot. And Physics for engineers at Pitt is just…rough. ugh. I’m glad those days are behind her and us lol!

Is there a facebook group for accepted students?

@SpartanAzure, there are two “Pitt Class of 2023” groups on Facebook. Not sure what the difference is, except that one has an ! after the name. ?. I think you have to request to join.

The one WITH an exclamation mark is not the official group. It’s made by a third party company whose target demographic is college students. They have liking an Instagram post as a requirement to join. Since this is the unofficial group, some people are more prone to speak freely. However, you may have to deal with advertisement posts as it is still run by a third party for-profit company.

The one WITHOUT the exclamation is the official group run by Pitt admissions. They ask for your Pitt ID as a requirement to join, to verify that you are admitted I assume.

I’ve joined both! At the moment it’s just people posting pictures of themselves, which is like all admitted student groups lol

I wrote an interest letter to Pitt as well. It was very thorough and I think it was well written. Do you think this helps my chance of getting admitted?

Got into Swanson! 1320 sat, 3.7 uw

S’s buttons just changed. I am beyond shocked. I was sure he would get rejected. Stats are 1220 SAT, 3.65 weighted, only one AP.

@me29034 Didn’t he already commit to Temple

My son applied back in December and has not heard yet…we keep getting emails from Pitt to apply though…my guess is he will not be accepted since its been this long.

@PopUpZone1921 I think he should pick up the phone and call admissions!

That’s a great suggestion…He is away with Model Congress at the moment but will have him call Monday.

@allieandjoe yes he did, but he still had not heard from Pitt. It was the one app left hanging. I dont think this will make a difference to him but it’s nice to know.

My daughter applied to Pitt in October and got a request for Mid-year grades to be sent. She sent them 2/8 and is waiting still for an answer. SAT is 1250 and GPA is 3.8 unweighted and 4.2 weighted. She got 3 A’s and one B in a dual-enrollment course. What are the chances?

waitlisted  anyone have any advice?

A college counselor actually has advice in this forum. Search “waitlisted” in the general topics section. If you can’t find it, I’ll try to send you the link.

@Ponogirl808 In a week or so, send them an email with an update (things you’ve done and are proud of, other achievements) plus a paragraph or two stating your intent at (possibly) enrolling if accepted. Enforce that Pitt is your #1 (?) school and that you love the atmosphere etc. (insert specific qualities that you love about Pitt). Address it to the deans and include as much information as you think necessary in order to affirm to them that you are qualified, you love Pitt, and you would surely attend if accepted. If they don’t reply, send it again (without any harshness).

Has anyone else heard a decision after having your mid-year grades requested? I am so anxious!!

@MdgmMom @Cherax Thank you so much! I spoke with my counselor to hopefully be able to contact admissions and talk about my position and interest. Thanks!

@EmilyisCool yeah I got in. Sent my mid year grades like 4 weeks ago and got the decision (officially) today

@EmilyisCool Sent my mid year grades 5 weeks ago and haven’t heard back yet. I guess they must be very busy.
