University of Pittsburgh Class of 2024 Official Discussion Thread

Hello, all prospective Pitt students! I’ve been waiting for someone to create this thread, but I’ve waited long enough! I just visited Pitt, and it confirmed why it’s my #1 school! Since college applications are beginning to open, I want to start discussing our journeys to applying to Pitt! Feel free to post what you’d like, as long as it’s appropriate and respectful! Some info about me: I am applying for pre-pharmacy, and I’ll hopefully also attend Pitt for pharmacy school! I will actually be attending Pitt Pharmacy’s RxPlore Proffessional Summer Camp at the end of the month. At the moment after pharmacy school, I want to do PGY1 and PGY2 residencies and become a cardiology pharmacist, but that will most likely change. I am very passionate about learning languages and advocating for the environment. All right, I’ve said enough. Now, it’s your turn! Happy college application season, everybody!

We are excited about applying Pitt too. DS did a CS camp at Pitt last summer and will do a cyber security camp this summer.

Btw, anyone knows when the Pitt application for Fall 2020 will open? DS looked last night and it was still for Fall 2019 and spring 2020.

@SincererLove I believe it opens August 1st or shortly after that!

Also very interested in pitt, good luck to you! I’m applying to their new computational biology program and am super excited because its not common for schools to have this major. I am also considering pharmacy as I have always wanted to go into the healthcare industry!

@PurpleLlama066 That sounds so cool! Good luck to you as well! Pitt is a really solid choice for anything in the healthcare field!

Question for the Pitt Admission Staffer who follows this thread. Or a parent who has BTDT. I have a kid applying from TJ in NOVA. 1520 SATS, 3 subject tests above 700. Middle of the class GPA (4.0W). No disciplinary issues. He hopes the application for the School of Arts and Sciences (Science track) will be in this weekend. The application is done, and he needs to take a final pass on the SAQs.

When could he expect hear?

When would he hear about any merit scholarships?

Is there any downside to applying to the University now, and the Honors College later this fall, once he has had more time to work on the essays? As long as he makes the early deadline for HC consideration, is there any benefit to applying earlier? He needs to spend more time on the HC short answer Qs.

Hi, @Destination2020
Our Admissions Committee will begin reviewing applications in September so you can expect to hear back 4-6 weeks after that. Merit scholarship decisions typically don’t come until March 1. There is no downside to applying to Pitt Honors later as long as you meet their deadlines.
Good luck!
-Pitt Admissions Staffer

DS applied 8/18 via Common App. The mobile portal (PSMobile) began showing Accept/Decline buttons today.

ACT 36, SAT Math 2 800, SAT Physics 800, GPA 4.0 UW / 4.92 W,
ISEF 3rd place category and special awards winner, USACO Platinum, USAPhO Silver Medal, AIME Qualifier

Hoping for good news on Honors/Merit.

Congrats! Where did you find these buttons?

https://psmobile.pitt.edu/app/dashboard
On the left side, under Admissions, there is a menu item called “Accept/Decline Admissions”. When clicked, it shows the buttons in the main pane. It has previously been reported that official acceptance letter arrives shortly after this status change.

what does it mean when you have the accept/decline showing?

Thank you @TheVulcan, and congrats to your S on the (probable) acceptance. I just texted my S to check his portal. He applied 8/21 via Coalition. Exciting!

@TheVulcan Thanks for the update. Glad to see the acceptances have started. My S applied 8/1. STATS: 4.50W (3.95UW), SAT 1320 (660M/660E). He applied to Dietrich. We are hopeful. H2P!!!

Anyone have an opinion if you think he will get in?

To clarify, he applied to SCI.

DS also applied SCI. We checked the dashboard, he also has the button. When he clicked on the button, it said no pending application at the time?

He has 1460 SAT, 4.8 Weighted and 12 APs.

“No pending application” is what it showed before.
Now it shows two buttons (Accept and Decline) and some app info (Term, Application Number, School name).

The instructions above the info read “Select either the Accept or Decline button to indicate your choice. You will then be asked to confirm your decision. Select the Previous button if you do not wish to make a selection at this time.”

@sincereLove it shows the same for my son. I hope he gets more info via email/mail this week.

I want to make it very clear as I think there may be some confusion here.

  1. You have to check the mobile portal, not the regular one. The URL is https://psmobile.pitt.edu/app/dashboard
  2. Under Admissions, on the left side, there is the "Accept/Decline Admissions" menu item. This item was always present. When selected, it displayed "No active applications" on the right side.
  3. On Friday, instead of "No active applications" the site began showing two separate buttons, "Accept" and "Decline", as well as Term and Application Number, under the instructions reading "Select either the Accept or Decline button to indicate your choice. You will then be asked to confirm your decision" and "Sch Computing and Information" heading.

@TheVulcan , thank you! I think your son has great stat. I believe that is why he gets the admission decision so much quicker.

I hope we all hear back soon.

@Arm2227 , his stat looks good. Maybe a higher SAT would help. Is he instate? What does Naviance from his school say?
