@namelessnancy In the honors info session on Weds they said they do look at the Common App essay. All schools see the activity list.
@MargaretP2 Congratulations! My D applied at the end of August and we are still waiting for news. We called admissions and were told that they would only send acceptance notification through the mail. So, I’m confused how everyone is getting emails and “buttons.” My daughter is getting very concerned as the days go by.
@CanCam Thank you!! I wasn’t sure whether to send a resume or not as my activities list covered everything I’d want to share. But if they do look at it, I guess I’m good!
She received her acceptance in the mail this afternoon! Applied 9/21, buttons changed 10/8. No e-mail.
@namelessnancy In the past, Pitt NEVER saw the activity list from the common app. They said if you were passionate about any extracurriculars to make sure that you mention them in your SAQ essays. They also never saw the common app essay. My son applied last year so I was up on how everything worked.
This year, with test scores optional, they are willing to look at more information. So you now have the choice when you submit to Pitt your common app to include your personal essay with your application.
But I don’t think they see your activity list–it is the way they’ve set up with common app. If you want them to see it, i’d email your admissions rep your resume. If it turns out to be duplicate information, no harm, no foul. But, it not, it is good they have it. My daughter’s rep also send you can email him letters of recommendation. Our school does it through Naviance and since they’ve never wanted letters in the past, they aren’t set up to receive them through that system.
My daughter just got her acceptance letter today. College of Nursing! Buttons changed 10/10 and letter just arrived. No email.
there appears to be no rhyme or reason, no pattern to the buttons changing and when people get an email or snail mail. unless they are releasing it by school?
maybe there is a school of acceptance pattern among those that have received those additional items beyond noticing the buttons being changed?
anyone have buttons change and receive email and/or snail mail when accepted into the college of business administration?
My son’s acceptance to Swanson came in the mail today (with an unexpected Graduate program guarantee)!
He didn’t know about the buttons, so he was happy and relieved to get his acceptance today (he had applied on 9/12).
Hi, wondering if Pitt accepts self-reported SAT scores (via the Common App)? Or is the application not complete until the official scores have been received at Pitt via the College Board?
Daughter received her acceptance letter in the mail today. Applied to Dietrich on 9/23, Buttons changed on 10/6 and received the letter on 10/17. Hopefully the email will follow soon. Yay!
Congrats!! @2019gradsmom @2021YayCollege @nstern
Hi All,
Wow! You guys have tons of helpful information! My daughter applied yesterday through Common App. I have a few questions. She opted to send in her SAT scores. She took it twice - once as a “practice” when she was a sophomore and then again this October (everything in between was canceled). Her first time was ok but not great. This time it was quite high. Does Pitt require ALL Sat scores for those that want to send in their scores or can she just send in the most recent? Also, she submitted her official transcript. Should she also submit her SRAR? Thanks very much!
@Olive88 I believe you can choose which test scores to send! So you don’t have to send the “practice one”. I don’t think you technically have to do the SRAR if you submit an official transcript through Naviance (or whatever your school uses), but I think the SRAR does speed up the process. It can take a couple weeks for schools to get and process your transcript once it was sent (which can take College Counselors a while), while a SRAR is a pretty instantaneous process once you complete it. If she’s applying to other schools that require the SRAR, it might be worthwhile to do it anyway.
@virgosun Thank you! She is really excited about Pitt so she is doing the SRAR now - wants to hear back as soon as possible.
@Olive88 I wish her the best of luck!!!
@Olive88 Pitt is SCORE CHOICE so you can send just best and final one.
Good Luck!
Hi. My research shows that Pitt wants official score reports vs self reporting.
From their website:
Submit your Official SAT or ACT results (if applicable)
We will take your highest ACT composite score and your highest SAT superscore. We do not require the SAT Essay or ACT Writing scores. See below for more information on test-optional policies.
@fanoffriends my sons buttons changed 10/8. He received an acceptance letter to the school of business in the mail 10/15.
@fanoffriends - thanks. that was my thought too, although I was hoping I was wrong
