University of Pittsburgh Class of 2025 Official Discussion Thread

D also received email with video today - pretty neat stuff. So, when will we receive merit award letter ? :wink:

Congrats to those accepted! Still waiting for DD - great stats, applied in late August but checked off applying to honors. She took her time with honors essay really cultivating her thoughts and did not submit that until 10/5/20. Do we think they held her application until they received that? seems long otherwise!

D received both her acceptance letter and email with video today. We were pleasantly surprised to see that she was offered guaranteed admission to the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs. She applied at the end of August, indicating that she’d be taking SAT in September and wanted that to be considered. Her score was released on 10/9, her button changed on 10/14, and both email and snail mail arrived today. The video is nicely done and makes you feel welcome. Thank you all of you and for your posts on this CC forum for preparing us on what to expect!
Regarding Honors College decision, this is what Pitt has on their Honors College Freshman Admission website: Applicants will be notified of their Honors College application decision on February 1.
As for university scholarships notification, please see the following:
Notification of Award
Due to the competitiveness of University Scholarships, most admitted students and their credentials are reviewed by the Scholarship Committee several times before a final decision is made. As a result, those students selected to receive an award will be notified anytime between late-November and March 1 regardless of date admitted.

@phlped I believe they’d hold it until your D submitted everything. My D indicated she wanted her SAT score to be considered. She contacted her admission rep early on that she would be taking another SAT in Sept. They sent her an email early October to see if her plan changed. Once CollegeBoard sent her SAT score to them, her button changed in a few days, and she was accepted. I’m sure you’ll hear from the admission office soon. Good luck!

Hello everyone, I was accepted today as well to Deitrich. I have gotten the email with the video but awaiting the mail. I have a 93 GPA on a 100 scale and did not submit the SAT. I am an out of state student from NJ. I filled out one of the ‘supplemental’ questions on the application. I submitted my application in mid-late September and just now have received a notification. When I had talked to admissions and financial aid they had said that they do not start reviewing FAFSA forms until the beginning of next year, which is when financial aid packages should be going out. Please let me know if you have any questions and good luck to all of you!

Hi! This year with many applicants submitting their applications as Test Optional does anyone know if one could submit their mid-year senior transcript by December for consideration for merit. My D is hoping to pull her GPA up from 4.3 to 4.4 with 6 APs and so far has straight As on all 7 courses. With her current GPA of 4.3, I doubt she would get any or enough merit for us to commit to Pitt. Thoughts?

@hailtopitt1787

My daughter has been accepted by the School of Nursing. At the time of submitting her app, her SAT score was 1490, and she was able to increase the score to 1530 recently. She has sent in the new score. Question – would this new score be used for merit scholarship considerations?

Thanks

@2021YayCollege If you follow threads from last year, they say that Pitt has moved away from merit-based aid and it almost solely need-based. In fact one applicant noted that he was accepted to MIT and was not offered any merit to Pitt. So it sounds like it is a long-shot for all applicants.

I submitted my app on 10/24 via the common app but still have not heard anything back from admissions about the SRAR or applicant portal, should I be worried?

Has anybody received anything for merit yet ? :smile:

Hoping for a “little” help from PItt to make it affordable sine we are OOS.

@ttb1263: your kid’s stat are really good. You will probably be in the first tier of kids to receive merit :smile:

Do post after you have received the letter.

@2021YayCollege

Your kid’s stat is also excellent so I’m sure she will get good merit scholarship.

Hopefully, we will receive good news soon and definitely will post.

How much longer for a decision if I sent in my transcript via Naviance? I heard if you self-report your grades, the turnaround time is pretty quick but since I did it another way- should I expect to wait a while? I applied on 10/10 and it was downloaded by Pitt on 10/12.

@namelessnancy You should hear back very soon! Pitt did not start reviewing my application until 10/20, and I just saw the buttons change on the portal (that means I was accepted) today, 10/26. I’m sure you’ll hear back very soon, and the buttons may have already changed in your Pitt Portal.

Just go to myPitt and select the Pitt PS Mobile resource, then click on the admissions drop down and select “accept/decline admissions”

@SDSUHopefulClassof2025 Don’t be worried! It took me 3 days before the technology help desk emailed me instructions to set up my portal.

You should be able to check if your SRAR has been sent to Pitt yet.

@phlped I think you might want to look into that. I applied 10/20 and heard back 10/26. I indicated that I was going to apply to the honors college as well, but I still have not applied to honors. Applying to the honors college is a separate application and should not affect your regular application.

My son applied on 10/9. His buttons appeared on 10/22, and we received the email today. No snail mail yet!

@fizzile thank you for your help! Congrats on your acceptance ?

Yep, still waiting on snail mail. Wondering if other people have gotten anything…

Hey! Just an update! I received my snail mail letter yesterday and the letter read that I have a freshman guarantee into the BS/MS Dietitian Nutritionist program at UPitt! I am so thrilled! I am submitting my honors essay in November, so I cannot wait for that result either, I’m working really hard on this one!
University of Pittsburgh is probably one of the highest on my list so I am excited to find out what else comes my way ?
