University of Pittsburgh Class of 2025 Official Discussion Thread

submitted application on 11/4 - no buttons yet - should we be worried?

My daughter’s took 9 weeks! If 6-8 weeks go by and you haven’t heard then I would definitely contact your local admissions representative to touch base.

I am getting a little concerned, as I saw up further that Pitt does not see the Activities list in the Common App. Is this true? My son did not submit a resume or list of activities seperately. Other than the additional essay questions (he did 2), he did not do anything additional for the Pitt application, as we thought everything was complete from the common app. Teacher recs come from the school, through the common app. Is there a chance those won’t be seen by Pitt either? Could this explain why it’s been almost 4 weeks and he hasn’t received a decision? Thank you.

Did anyone here apply to Pitt in early September and get any information on merit aid? I’m in-state and have the stats (4.0, 36) so I’ll probably get something. I think the scholarship committee only started reading apps for merit aid in October so that might be a reason why I didn’t hear anything since my acceptance, but I’m curious to see if any early-September acceptees heard anything. Thanks!

My daughter (in-state) applied early October and was accepted within 10 days. She has similar stats (4.0 unweighted, 4.76 weighted, all APs junior and senior year, 1570 SAT). She hasn’t heard back re: merit either.

Yes. My daughter got her acceptance September 21, and got her Merit award letter in late October (10k/year).

I contacted the office of admissions and they said that my letter is on the way with my decision but my buttons haven’t changed. Does this mean I’ve been rejected?

@PAparents2020

4.3 w GPA, 4 AP (Chemistry, Physics, Calculus, English), National Honor Society, Math Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, captain varsity swim team, club swimmer, community service. No SAT/ACT submitted.

Out of state

Asked about the buttons in the other thread meant for acceptance announcement only - should have put it here. Which button are you referring to?

@Precious29 - Thank you.
Seems like most of the merit awards given till date are for out of state candidates.

@Coffeeprodigy - My daughter received a letter (buttons did not change). It wasn’t a rejection. It was a request for her to submit her mid year grades in January and they will assess her application (again) at that time. She is applying to nursing and has a borderline SAT but very good GPA. I would say at this point it’s 50/50 for her. Still better than a rejection at this time.

Not sure about buttons show up etc

Any tips and ideas portal should look like for application process ?

@dvtscience I also have the stats and applied in September. They start giving out scholarships in early october, but many candidates are reviewed several times and may not hear back until March 1st at the latest.

Has anybody applied on the 10/31 and received the buttons?

10/28 and got the buttons yesterday. My daughters convinced they come out on Mon Wed or Friday - she got buttons on a Wed

OOS applied to business school on 11/4 got buttons today. It says College of Business Admin but Plan/Major says Undeclared - does that mean that 1st choice major (finance) wasn’t accepted?

Not sure what you are referring to about the activity list, Pitt absolutely sees the list in the Common App, that is the only thing the majority of people send. The only part of the Common App that is optional for Pitt is the essay but if you include it they will review it.

Pitt does not use teacher recs for anyone, it says that on the admissions website. If you sent anyway not sure they would be reviewed. Our response took about 3 weeks and we sent late September so it could take longer now, I wouldn’t be alarmed.

My D applied late September, was accepted 3 weeks later and got merit letter 2 weeks after that.

Thanks for the reply. There were a few posts earlier in this thread that indicated something about Pitt not looking at the activities list. Thay may not haver been referring to the Common App. I wasn’t anxious about this process for my son until seeing that his response was later than most for Pitt, but his helped! Thanks!
