@MargaretP2 I submitted engineering app in September and got accepted a week later. Not sure if it was because I was OOS…
My son also applied end of August w great stats. My son tells me to just be patient. Sigh
Yes. My son applied to engineering on August 26th and we are still waiting.
Not August, but my son applied on September 12th for engineering, and no word yet here either. Very good grades, but no test scores to send.
My older son (now a sophomore) heard back in less than 3 weeks, so we were hoping for a similar turnaround this year.

My daughter applied same time this year that my son applied last year (9/21). He had heard by now but she is still waiting. Her grades/course load are much better than his were. She has no test scores though. And personally I think his essays were better but I am really surprised she is still waiting to hear.
hi! my daughter applied to Swanson mid August and SAR was locked on 8/25. She still hasn’t heard anything and is starting to get very upset. Pitt has been her number one school since she was little. Pressure! Is not hearing anything indication that it’s not good news? Honest thoughts please. I can take it, I just want to be prepared for her.
I just applied to the college of arts and sciences today and am really excited!
My daughter is still waiting too! Glad to know.
Pitt is my D’s #1 school as well. We’ve been waiting since mid-Aug. She has high honors, 4.65 GPA, solid course load, AP classes, volunteer at hospital 3 years, etc. Still nothing! 2 weeks ago when she logged in, she mistakenly thought she was accepted because she saw “buttons” but then saw “you have no application” and something like “Congratulations” on her phone. When we got home, we found that she was still pending. We were crushed! She called the admissions office and then was told give it 3 more weeks. She asked how she would be notified, her personal email or have to log on to the portal? She was told personal email. So, we are still waiting.
@CanCam & @Sandraben: are you both OOS and have you both submitted without Test Scores?
She was unable to take the SATs. They were canceled 4 times. Yes, we are out of state. Is this a signifiant matter in their decision?
@CanCam: Same here. My daughter got tired of waiting to take the SATs and ACTs so also submitted Test Optional to Dietrich School of Arts and Science. We are OOS as well. After reading your post and some others who are still waiting got me wondering maybe the applicants that are OOS and Test Optional will get lower priority and won’t hear back till later. I hope I am wrong. She submitted mid-Sept so I am guessing we won’t hear anything till much later.
Edit: My daughter has a strong GPA, 13 APs, lots of volunteering, Drum Major, leadership positions in honor societies, etc.
My daughter is in state, submitted test optional to the Business School in early September. Still nothing. It’s so hard to wait!!
We are in state and she did not submit tests.
Daughter applied 9/21 to Dietrich using Pitt App. Application complete 10/2 and buttons appeared this afternoon.
In-state
GPA: 100.007% W, 94.7% UW
SAT: 1330
7 AP/IB/Dual Enrollment, 8 Honors
Answered 2 optional questions
Significant year round dance commitment for 10+ years, THON Committee, NHS, World Language Honor Society, about 50 volunteer hours annually.
Best of luck to everyone!
I guess they are taking longer than normal with the ones that don’t have test scores. (Though I think someone up thread was accepted without scores) My daughter has 4.0 UW with honors/APs where available. OOS but she goes to a PA school (let her finish out where she started).
She didn’t send letters of rec or a resume to her admissions counselor because her teacher wasn’t done with hers yet and she references her activities in her essays. I wonder if she should have or still can if it is even worth it.
Congrats @ashley41 to your daughter.
@vannevka: That might be the reason for Test Optional applicants. The applicant in the up thread had a steller GPA of above 4.6 so that might have been why they were admitted sooner.
My daughter did end up taking the SAT offered by all the HS in our county after her application was already submitted. Still awaiting the scores. Does anyone know if one could still send in the scores after they come to help expedite the decision process?
@2021YayCollege: Thank you!
According to Pitt’s Admission site the test- optional choice can’t be changed https://admissions.pitt.edu/test-optional/. FYI - Penn State’s website initially stated the same, but the applicant portal allows you to change that option. Might be worth a call/e-mail to your daughter’s admissions rep.
My son is OOS applied 6 weeks ago to
Engineering w test scores and great stats and is still waiting. It’s his top choice…he tells me just to be patient. Waiting is hard
