Hi! So I recently was accepted into the University of Pittsburgh and much to my surprise I was not admitted into their honors college. I know that it doesn’t make a significant difference, I am just really surprised. I was under the impression that in order to qualify for the honors program, you needed a 1450 or above and an A average in a rigorous high school program. My school does not do class rank, so the 5% of high school class is irrelevant. Here some of my stats for reference:
SAT Superscore: 1460
Weighted GPA: 3.68
Unweighted GPA: 4.92
Classes taken: 12 Honors, 5 AP (currently taking 7 in my senior year)
I have taken a total of 29 classes (excluding senior year), 9 of which I have received a B.
Do you think that this a mistake or justified? I truly am confused and have already reached out to ask as to why I did not get accepted into it when I meet the requirements. Thanks so much
You can call and inquire about it. It might have been because of your GPA, if the unweighted was a 3.68. I am not sure if they look at weighted or unweighted.
If you want to take UHC courses as a freshman, you can ask for permission.
Hello, the University Honors College is not admission or membership based. If you meet the eligibility requirements @mommdc linked to in the previous post than you are automatically eligible to enroll in honors courses.
Hope that helps clarify!
Best,

@CAP2018, Unfortunately, I don’t have a specific GPA cut-off number to give you - if that is what you are looking for. They are looking for students who took challenging courses and got good grades in the majority of those courses - averaging an A-grade across their HS courses.
