I am deciding between the University of Pittsburgh and George Washington. I am majoring in Neuroscience and Public Health.
At Pittsburgh, I got into the Honors College and at both I got scholarships. I like both schools equally.

Is your net cost the same at both places? what is your goal after college?
Yes. I am looking to do pre-med or public health.
Pitt Honors sounds like a great option whichever direction you end up heading.
Are there any other major pros/cons for you?
If med school, University of Pittsburgh is surrounded by specialty hospitals and would be tough to beat for any pre-health focus. Neuroscience at Pitt is very, very established and excellent. Also, Pitt now offers undergrad public health major, and their graduate school for public health is #13. GW’s grad school may or may not rank higher, but Pitt all around for pre-health is amazing.
Pitt Honors offers lots of good mentoring and advising and activities, etc. if you jump in and get involved.
Good luck!
I love D.C. and the amount of opportunities it offers. I am a little hesitant for the pre-med advising at GW. There is only one advisor for 2,000 pre-med students.
However, at Pitt, I was admitted for neuroscience and they told me the Public Health major in a different school was full for the fall.
Do you want a campus or not - I mean, GW is as urban as they come and is only now getting a dining hall.
Pitt is urban…but a campus experience - football and all.
Personally, I’d choose Pitt - other than their bad admissions portal, I’ve never heard a bad word about it…
I love urban campuses! But I am not sure how supportive GW would be academically.
In what sense ? If you have concerns, contact admissions and have them set you up with a pre med student. Most will be honest. Ask pointed questions. Also contact the advisor. Perhaps they are seeking more. I assure you that GW is a leading school nationally producing many fine grads…as is Pitt.
I know pre med is different but in general I would not choose a school based on advising. My perception from talking with others is that it’s not strong at most places, like it wasn’t at most Hs….at least the publics. As an adult, you’ll figure it out and take the onus to do what’s needed just like you will do in life. As for pre med classes, they will be challenging anywhere. I already know a kid who dropped organic chem at what you would deem a school two notches down from these two.
If you will arrive with doubt then choose Pitt. It’s urban. Lose the doubt. But do you know the advising at GW isn’t good or are you just assuming ? And how about Pitts…do u know anything, good or bad about theirs ??
