University of Puget Sound Info?

I'm a junior and high school in Northern CA, and I'm really interested in the University of Puget Sound. Does anywho have any thoughts on the school? Anything I should know about it?

Might want to re-title your thread “University of Puget Sound”. I thought you had a question about mailing stuff (UPS)…which does come up on CC, especially at the beginning/end of semesters!

Here’s an old thread that may help:

FWIW, one of my best friends applied there three years ago and was accepted but did not attend. I visited briefly while in the area (looking at other schools) as well–nice campus but it felt a bit clastrophobic. Lots of red brick.

Sorry, I meant to title this University of Puget Sound

Any help??

I love UPS but couldn’t get Northern California D to look at at. I suggest you contact them and get on their mailing list and of course visit the webite. If you have specific questions I suggest you spell them out. You will get more specific answers that way. Try to get up there during your spring break since the best way to learn about a campus is by visiting.

We know a number of kids who attend UPS. It is a great, small liberal arts college on a beautiful campus near Seattle. I agree with Historymom–get on their mailing list and check out their website. A visit would be ideal; also check out your local college fairs–if there is a Spring one, there might be a UPS rep ther–or definitely in the Fall if a UPS rep comes to your area. You can usually find this info on the website; if not, an email to Admissions can usually get the information you seek.

What details do you want to know? My D attends, though I live in the Midwest, and have only visited once, this fall. She is quite happy there, lives in an nearby off campus house that is treated as if it were a dorm, with like minded others. The Freshman seminar is great. She enjoyed backpacking during orientation week. The campus is attractive, and feels low key. Tacoma has a bad reputation, but the campus neighborhood and some nearby shopping areas were nice. Financial aid is good, and everyone I speak with on the phone regarding various issues is remarkably pleasant.

Thanks everyone! I have checked out their website and my mom and I are hoping to plan a visit soon. Is the weather really that bad there? I’m from Northern CA, and for example it’s pretty sunny today. I don’t really love the rain, so would the weather be enough to effect me? I’m also planning on going to a Spring college fair in SF, and I know that UPS will be there.
Does anyone have any feedback on their english or psychology majors?

Uh SJTH, UPS is located in a large, separate city called Tacoma. Yeah, it’s about 50 miles or so S of Seattle.

I grew up in the Seattle/Tacoma area, and also spent one year in the Bay Area. The weather is very similar, except S/T is grayer because the ever present cloud cover is thicker. Rainfall is probably similar. S/T occasionally gets snow in the winter but it usually disappears quickly (thankfully, especially in Seattle the “City of 7 Hills.”

Some parts of Tacoma do have a bad rep, but those are away from the campus. The downtown area has gone through a lot of econ dev lately and it shows.

It’s hard to beat the Pacific Northwest for having handy outdoor activities for the choosing. Just remember to wear Gortex!

Thanks, I’m aware of Tacoma’s proximity to Seattle–it’s a 45 min. drive. To me, that’s near Seattle–I’m so sorry if I mislead the original poster, but 45 mins. is close enough for our friends who go there. They enjoy frequent trips to Pike’s Place market, EMP etc., and perform often in Seattle venues as performing arts majors.
