University of Rhode Island - Organic Food Friendly?

I'm narrowing down my list of schools to apply to, and URI seems pretty cool and they have a program that I'm really interested in. My main concern is that it is situated in a rural area (or so I've heard). I'm assuming I won't be able to find any one of my grocery staple stores (Whole Foods, Trader Joe's etc.)... So how is the "Organic Scene" there? Farmer's markets within a walkable radius (I draw the line at 1.5 miles)? What about when winter rolls around?
I try my best to eat the "health nut" foods, and this is easily achieved where I'm located since we have a WF/ TJ/ Farmer's market practically everywhere. Would I be able to continue if I were to attend URI?
Also, I'm a fan of biodegradable soaps, detergents, etc. are there stores within a reasonable radius where I can obtain such goods? I suppose I could order them online, but that's a bit of a hassle.

I am not familiar with the public transport system that Kingston, RI has, but if there's a place that would have the above mentioned, I would definitely take a bus on a Saturday morning.

(And in regards to the URI student body: Are they into organic/green/Portland or San Francisco-esque things or will I just be seen as the weird tree-hugger? I'm not a hard core environmentalist, but will I stand out like a sore thumb there?)

Thanks!
I'm unfamiliar with the non- big city east coast lifestyle, so I apologize if my questions are really ignorant.
