Yep, I decided to apply. GC was very nice about filling out the rec. (actually did it while I was there), and I got the app. etc sent off last week. What does anyone know about the school or surrounding area (Kingston, RI)? I hear its a bit of party school, which worries me, biut the chance at 6 year Pharm program seemed to good to ignore-even though I think my lack of advanced math might hurt me. I'm hoping my good ACT science score and math and science grades will help me.

I live in RI, and most people from my high school go on to attend URI.

Someone I know who goes there actually claims that it is THE top party school in the country and that it isn't actually listed as such because it's out of all other school's leagues - which I'm sure is BS, but it is still known for partying.

The pharmacy program is supposed to be fairly difficult to get into, but if you do get into that program you will probably qualify for a decent amount of merit aid. I'm not sure exactly how tough it is for out of state applicants.

Hmm...about the area...it's pretty rural and I can't think of much that is in Kingston, but Providence isn't far away. Everything in RI is close. There's also the ocean...that's about all there is.

I also live in RI and taught a course at URI many years ago (haven't been on campus since). At that time at least, the campus was quite pretty with a bit of an "in the middle of nowhere" feel. It's not far at all from all kinds of things to do in Providence and Newport and the beaches and quaint kinds of strolling areas and shops in the area near Kingston, but that may not be apparent without a car.

The administration has been working hard the past few years to address the "party school" reputation of URI, with some success I think. I know one student who just graduated from the Pharm.D. program. He was a serious student and was very satisfied with the education he received.

Thanks, backhandgrip. I doubt my ability to get into URI Pharm.D. I suppose it couldn't hurt to try for this option, especially because I'm expecting the college transition to be tough, and the 6-year program sounds like it would take quite a lot of stress off of my back in terms of professional school admisions.

Thanks for the info on URI as well. Would you say one definitely needs a car?
