Hi, I’m an applicant from CA and figured I should start a thread for all of us hoping to become Spiders. I envision this thread being primarily for discussion in the intervening time before decisions are released and then switching to more of a results type thing
Hi, my daughter is applying ED2 for 1/1, she’s OOS too in SC.
No one else applying ED2? When do ED1 applicants hear back?
I applied Regular, but according to the website ED1 applicants are notified on approximately 12/15. I’m assuming that those decisions have already gone out
@hbrunner. I assumed the same but surprised no one seems to be posting about it. Was interested to hear the stats of those who got in.
Chance me please
3.75 W GPA (Trending upward, poor freshman year, 3.83 last 2 years, currently 3.9 during 7th semester).
31 ACT (33 English and reading, 29 Math and science)
6 AP Courses Taken (Macroeconomics, comparative politics, U.S. government, Physics, Statistics, Environmental Science).
Most likely political science and or Business major
White male from Grand Rapids, Michigan.
National Honors Society
DECA
Senior Advisory Board (similar to stud gov group)
Basketball for 2 years
Many hours volunteered with Kids food basket, Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, local soup kitchen, cancer hospital of Grand Rapids.
Letter of recommendation from teachers are both outstanding and give very in depth personal description.
Letter of recommendation from a state level senator
Nominated to United States Naval Academy by my district’s house of reps member. (Notified admission counselor about receiving it and had it added to application).
Honest answers greatly appreciated, rather have a realistic idea than be overconfident from kind but not true responses.
Any input would be tremendous, also if chances could be given for William & Mary as well
Thank you
@brady12345 I’m a fellow applicant so take my chance with a grain of salt as it is entirely based on stats available on UR’s website/common data set and what I’ve heard from others. I would say it is probably a highish match. Your test score makes you a good candidate as it’s within their higher end of midrange and you have really strong academic rigor, which UR seems to value. Your extracurriculars seem related to what you want to study (yay!), but lacking in leadership/signs of depth (this might not be the case, but you didn’t list anything in your post). I’m not sure the nomination to USNA will help your application because while an impressive accomplishment it may seem as if you are aiming for the academy as oppose to UR. Overall I think you are a good candidate and should be cautiously optimistic. Best of luck to you!
Everybody get their application in? deadline is midnight tonight for ED2 & RD!
Anyone know when semi-finalists for the Richmond Scholars program are notified?
@hbrunner All semi-finalists have been notified at this point (as of Jan 12). They will receive notification on whether they are finalists starting pretty soon and all will be notified by mid February.
@guineagirl96 Ok thanks. Are there any merit scholarship opportunities available for non-Richmond scholars?
^ Yes, there is a helpful page on merit scholarships on the UR website.
Does UR still mail out decision letters or is it all online now? Thanks!
@britlass they send letters by mail still
Thanks! Big public colleges are all online so nice to see old-school habits! Does it mean anything if UR sends you an email asking for more financial stuff like W2s and so on? We just got an email and forwarded them what they wanted. We did the financial stuff in Dec (hubby did it, I forget the terminology!) so this is a separate request - do they send everyone this email?
My last comment above was not correct as the request to send more info to UR came from college board so I don’t think it meant anything hopeful !
@britlass. My D applied ED2 and we got an email today asking for another tax thing. I don’t think it means anything as they are trying to at least make sure they have everyone’s info should they get accepted as they have to get acceptance & aid letters out to ED kids 2/15. Also, did you email them what they wanted? The email gave me an address but I asked if I could just email it but haven’t heard back.

I’ve had bad luck so far with my college acceptances (denials from Vanderbilt and UVA/deferral from Georgia Tech), so I’m starting to get a little nervous. Any insight would be appreciated!
I think that you have a pretty good chance at UR, although UR is getting much more competitive. IMO, UR is more holistic than the other schools that you mentioned so your essays and ECs will probably make or break your app as your grades and scores are competitive.
@londondad My D’s scores were not as high as the poster above you, although she has a 4.3 w gpa. Her d.c.'s aren’t as strong either but she had an amazing essay, very unique slant on the spidervquestion. OOS in SC. We are hoping they are very holistic, lol, how much do u think the essay counts? We are hopeful but realistic & don’t think her chances are that high. Thank you!
