Hi - My daughter applied EA last night her stats-
3.85UW
4.45 W
1380 SAT (went test optional bc not in middle 50%)
8 APs (4 for senior year)
visited 2 weeks ago
3 sport athlete (captain of two of the sports)
tons of volunteer work over 300 hours
great essay (although that can be subjective)
NHS
job lifeguard/ swim instructor
great recommendations from math and english

Any thoughts? Seems to be getting harder and harder each year! might due ED2 but don’t want to risk not getting money.

Any others have applicants for 2024 admissions?

Richmond actually recalculates the GPA for all applicants so there should be information on their website and/or a video on one of their YouTube channels. They only count core academic classes in the recalculated GPA so they take out P.E. or Health, for example.

Richmond also usually has a huge EA pool so they end up deferring a lot of them, especially if they have higher stats like your daughter because they are worried about yield and don’t want to be the EA backup for someone who might get into an ED1 or ED2 school. They want you to show that you really want to attend so in the event of a deferral, a strong letter of continued interest could be very helpful.

You’re right about UR getting harder and harder each year. Their acceptance rate for the last admission cycle was 23% and the stats of the admitted students were very, very high (you can access their 2027 class profile on their website for more information).

Your daughter has great stats though. More APs than the average admitted student at UR, solid grades, solid ECs, and it seems like good recommendations from both a STEM and humanities teacher which is always great. Good thing not to submit the SAT score, though.

Converting to ED2 could be a good idea. They would hate to lose an ED admitted student because of money issues, so most colleges are usually flexible/understanding. UR is also need-blind in the admissions process.

Hope this helps!

Thank you ! This was helpful.

4.0 UW
4.58? W
33 ACT (applied test optional)
8 APs
strong athletics (all state, multi sport, captain, etc)
NHS
NCL officer
Club President
organzized fundraiser
strong volunteer hours but nothing crazy
I assume good recs and essay?

My D applied EA to Richmond last year. She had ECs (sports/art/volunteering) with rigor and stats very similar to those above (5.2 W, 1520 SAT). @CollegesandCats and others are right… admission is very challenging in the EA round. Last year, my D was deferred in EA round, but ultimately accepted, after writing LOCI. Don’t lose hope if deferred!

For ED1, are decisions issued on 12/15 all together or do they roll decisions out before then? Thank you to anyone who takes the time to respond!

ED1 decisions are released all together, by 12/15, but typically before. Last year, Richmond released ED1 decisions on December 9th at 7PM ET.
