My daughter is undecided on her major but excels in math/science. i need opinions/experiences with math/science programs at UR. Are they competitive? She wants to co tongue to grad school.
My 2 daughters attend UR as biochemistry majors and are having great experiences there. They have been able to do research in the lab since their freshman year and have had paid summer research internships on campus. There is an annual research symposium and the students prepare posters and present their research at national conferences. It is not unusual for students to publish papers. The advising and career counseling at UR is excellent, too. Many students successfully go on to med/grad school and the school is very supportive in helping students prepare for the application process.
Everything above is absolutely correct. I’m a sophomore CS and Math double major who plans to go to grad school. I do on campus research with one of the math professors and have received a conditional offer for an internship this summer with a government agency (can’t and don’t want to be more specific). I also plan on applying for the on-campus summer research funding for this summer in case the internship falls through.
We have a great math program, same with the science programs. These extra opportunities for internships and research are very helpful in gaining admission to grad school.
Princeton Reciew ranked University of Richmond as having the 10th best science lab facilities. Doing research here is a big focus for our undergraduates with many students getting accepted to top graduate schools!
