ahhh praying so hard my letter comes today. the waiting is torture. My SAT is a 1560 but my GPA is 3.65 unweighted… so i really don’t know where I stand.
@Missyrud It was in the packet, in a separate envelope that said Financial aid information enclosed
Have any intl students heard back already? I was expecting a decision by today since they said early this week, but still nothing…
@rocioarg same here. I knew someone who was deferred from EA received his waitlist notification early this week.
@extremelynervous any luck? Honestly I think it’ll come down to more than stats - good luck!
For all those waitlisted, my hunch is that admissions has a tendency to not want to deny applicants with good stats but also not accept them. If I were you, I’d take a spot on the waitlist and then make other plans.
anyone in the philadelphia / lower pennsylvania or new jersey area receive anything yet? deferred EA; just hoping to hear back soon
Accepted!
3.6UW, 4.4 W GPA
1550 SAT.
@Achoo42 R U an international applicant?
Nope, Houston.
A little late but accepted EA. SoCal 1490 4.5 GPA weighted. Lots of ECs and leadership. Still not sure where I’m going.
International Student (living in the U.S.)- Conditional Acceptance (EA - Deferred - RD), they told me that since they have low funds for international students (and because of my visa type) I am accepted on the condition that if I somehow get $74,290 (full price of everything!) in my bank account by May 1st then I can attend URichmond in the fall. Did anyone else get accepted with similar conditions? — sidenote this is insane, that kind of money won’t just appear magically!!
@supple123 I feel for you - I wasn’t allowed to apply for any type of aid (need based or merit) because I don’t have access to my parents’ social security numbers and I’m technically a dependent. Richmond is not a cheap school, not by a long shot, and the college admissions bureaucracy is full of ridiculous technicalities.
Where exactly are you getting the $74k number from? Is that tuition + room and board?
@unicollege they sent me that number in the email saying that it is the full price for international students including the following:
“Full-time tuition $54,690
Room and board 12,900
Books and supplies 1,100
Personal expenses 4,500
(includes transportation, medical insurance, and other personal necessities)
TOTAL $74,290”
Unfortunately that’s the number that they said is the “minimum amount” that I need in my bank account by May in order to be officially admitted/enrolled to the school.
It really sucks that you weren’t able to apply for aid, yeah this whole process is very biased. It’s frustrating that it is so unaffordable, that makes it very hard for students with our situation to attend the school. AHHH
@supple123 yeah - when I first started the admissions process, a lot of people told me how lucky I was to have things like the common app and FSA to make the whole process easier. But when I realized I didn’t fit the stereotypical applicant mold perfectly, I started to lament how rigid and overly streamlined the system is.
My tuition is slightly lower as a domestic student, but yeah, insane is a good word. If you follow American politics, there’s actually a huge debate about this right now – the cost of college education is rising at 2.5 times the inflation rate, and virtually all of the price increase goes towards “administrative labor” rather than increasing quality of education. The logic is that a college degree today is worth what a high school diploma 30 was years ago, leading to increased demand, leading to higher prices, and no one wants to protect students because banks make so much money on student loans.
This is silly question but what is it about UR that made people apply. The reason I asked is my son (from NJ) applied on a whim to UR and got accepted. He did’nt do a lot of research and never visted the school. he is not sure he wants to be premed or business major
@futuredocml We are from California and my eldest very much wanted a small, liberal arts college. Unfortunately, we are on a state school budget so her options were get into a full needs school or find big merit. Richmond came up on a list with some peer schools she was looking at and she applied. She loved her 4 years there.
Middle was unsure about attending his sister’s school (even though they wouldn’t be there together) but It did check the boxes of what he wanted and we knew it would be affordable so he put in an application on like, the last day. Once acceptances were in, he found himself using Richmond as a yard marker for all the other schools. Eventually, he just realized instead of looking for ways other schools measure up to Richmond that he should just go there. He’s a happy freshman.
@futuredocml my daughter did not have U of R on her list. We live in the area so she felt it would be too close. kept pushing her to at least visit. When we did, she was blown away. So much so that it became one of her top 2 schools. She loved the campus, which is gorgeous, I mean seriously. Our tour guide was a theater minor who had had the opportunity to study abroad, both of which appealed to my daughter’s interests. (She’s undecided for her major but it would likely be in LA which UofR would def be able to support) The dorms were nice and the atmosphere was totally the right vibe for her. Unfortunately the aid is not where we need it to be so there is a ? mark about whether she’ll be able to attend. Good luck to your kiddo in making the right decision for him!
Anyone else STILL waiting on Richmond?
does anyone here know anything about the art department? I am undecided but I may lean to art. My other option is Brandeis, so i want to choose the school with the most options I can choose from but also the one with the strongest art department for majors and minors
Just saw that University of Richmond 's admit rate for the Class of 2023 is only 27% - per College Kickstarter blog.
