University of Richmond vs. University of Miami for Business (Transfer Student)

Hey everyone. I’m having trouble making a decision and was hoping someone could help me out.

I’ve applied to a few schools as a transfer student (rising junior) and I just received my AA in Business Administration from a community college in Miami, FL. I’m currently waiting for replies from Cornell, USC, and NYU, but I have to make a decision regarding UR very soon.

I’ve been accepted to UR with a full need based grant (I would have to pay for room & board only). I’ve also been accepted to UM, but I haven’t received my financial aid package yet. So, in terms of financial aid offered, I can’t make a decision.

I don’t really care for the social scene at all. I don’t care for greek life, sports, parties, etc. I am however interested in reputation and quality of education. For business, would you say either one is better? Half the websites I read go for UM and the other half go for UR. They both seem like great schools but I have to make a decision by the end of next week.

Thanks!

without a finaid offer from UM, you can’t make a business-like decision since you are missing key information. Other than that, both are fine regional schools, and their reputation is going to be more local than anything else.

If you’d like to work in Florida, Miami would have an edge, finances being equal. If you’d prefer to land in the mid-Atlantic, Richmond could be the ticket.

@bluebayou Yeah that’s why I’m having a hard time making a decision. I already have an $18,500 scholarship from UM’s admission office, but there’s more to the financial aid package which I have to wait for.

But yeah you’re right, I guess I should look into employment opportunities to decide. Thanks!

UMiami has a business school with a solid national presence while Richmond is regional. Wall Street would be UMiami biased for sure.

@momintown Thanks! Yes, after doing some research I do feel like UM is recognized nationally, more than UR is. I’m about to submit my deposit actually.
