University of Richmond vs. University of Rochester

Hello people,

For an international student who wants to have a very good college experience (both social and academics-wise) and who will be a computer science major, which school offers more?

Thanks!

Regarding computer science academics, I believe Rochester is MUCH stronger. I saw a rating a couple years ago putting it in the top 25 in undergrad CS (not US News, and it reports grad only anyways). Richmond is nowhere to be found on that list. Socially, my impression is that Rochester is nerdier than some schools, but not in a bad way. I suspect Richmond might be more comfortable for an International student as they do seem to have that focus, but I really don’t know that for sure.

As an alumnus, UR is a great school. It offers small class sizes, research opportunities, and a $4000 stipend for research/internship opportunity for each student. UR offers the best of both worlds, a vibrant, rigorous and challenging/stimulating intellectual environment and a very outgoing close-knit community of learners. Check out the website richmond.edu and click on academics, then computer science to find out the most about the CS program. UR’s programs are very strong and competitive. You will get a great education here and meet lifelong friends.

Richmond has a great international flair. Check out the admitted students page and click on google map. That will give you a general idea of the student population. The student body is, in general, exceptional and among the best high school students around.

For an international student, you will be extremely happy at UR. We can be “nerdy” but balance it out often.
