Who’s on stage 4 yet??? So nervous!
Hey guys! Still on stage 2
Mine is on step four too… Could that mean that we might hear on the earlier side?
Mine is on 4 too. I’m so scared. I hope to get positive news
mine is on step 4! hopefully we’ll hear back early March!
I am on step 4. Can’t wait!!
I’m applying for linguistics. Anyone else for linguistics too?
My step 4 is complete. The rapidity with which my app has moved from 2-4 is giving me the heeby jeebies!. It seems that decisions will be posted quite early dont y’all think?
@Leyla98 I am!!! Glad to have found another ling person. Can I PM you to ask how you got interested in it?
Yeah, me too! Everyone I know who is interested in Rochester is going for pre-med or engineering.
Sure! I’d love to know how you got interested in it too.
Has anyone done the writing sample that its recommended for the application? If so, what are the possible topics we could write about? Thanks!
IIRC, this should be a graded paper from high school, not something written specifically for the application. My son who just applied dug out an English paper he got an A on and scanned it and submitted. My older two children were accepted to UR a few years ago and didn’t submit a sample as far as I remember. A poster in this thread says the majority of applicants do not submit a sample. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-rochester/1011138-graded-writing-sample.html
step 4 right now. Can’t wait!
I’m on stage 4. I heard the CSS or something said first round of decisions would be released around 3/8 but unsure
Guys, please is it a bit weird that according to the Rochester Portal, it seems like every application goes to committee? Isn’t that weird? I thought only a the almost-acceptance pile goes to committee for a final decision. Is there anyone’s app that never got to the committee on their portal?
I’m just curios on why everyone goes to
stage four. I mean, I don’t think all apps go to the committee, or is
Rochester an exception? Or do some applicants never reach stage
four?
@iocbobby10 The login portal says “At the University of Rochester, two counselors will review and then a committee will discuss each application”, so yes, every app is supposed to go to stage 4.
I don’t mean to argue but I HIGHLY doubt that. Some apps are obvious rejects after the first read. If the committee at a good school like Rochester discussed every single app after two preliminary reads, that’s just not true. The portal might say so, but no one is in the admission office except them. Sinceriously, try and see my point.
Well, let’s say every app does go to committee, not every app will get the same level of scrutiny and if your two readers don’t like you, I don’t think there’ll be much to discuss.
Does it matter if every app goes to the committee? What difference does it make whether the app dies when 2 officers say “no recommendation,” or after a committee agrees with them?
