HI. Any advice to an international student deciding between U of Rochester and Wesleyan?. Goal is to science major (but with a few other interesting social science type courses), and try for Med School. While Rochester is larger, it is much smaller than some other schools (UCSD/UC Davis where I have offer). So, I am now finally thinking about Rochester or Wesleyan. Any words of advice on which school has a strong pre-med program; where would chances of getting into Med School be better?
Both are very good schools that are well regarded by graduate and professional schools. Go with the one whose campus life, curriculum, etc. seem like a better match for you.
@Malisa have you decided yet? I am in the same situation as you: also between both universities and I am an international student. I am.pursuing a double major in math and computer science. I think I will go to Rochester; although I like that Wesleyan is small with small classes and knit community with students and professors, I think it is too small for me (I come from a city). I found Rochrster a perfect in-between. When I visited it barely last week (I did that for both schools, my parents were really excited so we traveled), I felt people at UofR are very VERY nice regardless of not being a LAC. I simply liked the vibe. But I guess it really depends in oneself. I just see myself happier in UofR (and most of my family & friends think the same).
I mean, both are GREAT schools; therefore, it is more a matter of “which one you like more personally” than “which onr is better” (in my opinion).
Wesleyan doesn’t have a pre-med major. They have what’s called a track. However, don’t let that deter your decision. Wes is awesome in terms of the vibe and campus life. A good way to describe this college in one word is “activism” because that is something people are always involved in.
