University of Rochester. WILL CHANCE BACK!

University of Rochester is by far my first choice school at this point. I'm just curious as to if this is a total pipe dream. Here are my current stats (I'm a junior):

4.0 GPA (unweighted)- I come from a rural area that doesn't offer AP classes, but I have taken the most rigorous courses offered as well as some dual credit classes.

Class rank:1/43

PSAT: 181 (CR-64, M-67, W-50) My projected ACT score is about 30-32. I plan on studying for quite a bit due to my poor PSAT score.

As for extracurriculars, my main three are FFA, Technology Student Association, and National Honor Society. I have held chapter officer positions in these organizations (reporter, vice-president, president, etc...) and might run for state office this year (if I run, I'm very likely to get the position). I am accomplished in FFA, consistently getting first place at local and regional competitions. I have been scoring very well at state as well and hope to get first is year. As for my envolvement in the Technology Student Association, I have been on the 2nd place team at state in a particular competition two years in a row and also hope to take first this year. I volunteer for National Honor Society group events, as well as some volunteer work on my own. I am a freshman mentor at my school.

I have participated in my state's Governor's school program. I also already have laboratory experience at my state university (this is relevant since I plan to go into science) and am currently looking into intern opportunities for next summer.

My recommendations will include an excellent narrative from the professor overseeing my previous lab work (summer 2013), and possibly the mentors I will work with next summer. I also have high school teachers that love me and have written great recommendations before (to get me into Gov School). I normally can write well, so essays should be no problem. Granted they probably won't be spectacular, but definitely good enough.

Note: I plan to major in Chemistry/Biochemistry (my previous research experience is in this field); however, I am also interested in astrophysics, which is apparently called Physics and Astronomy at U of R.

I am out of state for NY, if that makes a difference. Also a VERY under-represented state at U of R.

If you have any questions or desire further info, don't hesitate to ask!

PLEASE post the link for your chances thread. I'll find it if you don't, but it simplifies things.

I’ve also been told that being from my home state is a hook and students coming from a rural area add diversity to campus and could possibly be sought after applicants. Not sure if this is true, but interpret it how you will.

U Rochester: Aim for 29+/2000+

Really? I thought it was more selective than that, but ok  shouldn’t be a problem (at least ACT wise, as I think that test suits me better). Any other opinions?

If you get at least a 29 on the ACT, you should be fine for Rochestor

I think it’s a match, if you do get your projected ACT score.

Wow! Maybe my dream isn’t as unrealistic as I thought! I’m kind of afraid of how much I love this school, as I kind of have learned to love nothing and become as detached as possible. Things I care about tend to disappear or never materialize in the first place, but I guess I might actually have a chance for admission here after all  awesome  thanks guys!

But I would never have given such a target score if not of your home state…

From UofR Fast Facts:
Standardized Test Scores
(Mid-50%) of Enrolled Students
SAT Critical Reading 600-700
SAT Math 650-750
SAT Writing 620-700
ACT Composite 29-32

@Catria, I kind of figured this might be the case because 29 is in the 25th percentile at U of R.

By the way, I also help my parents run their small business if that counts as an EC.

I you have an excellent shot! It isn’t a pipe-dream! I’d say it’s a low match with the projected ACT score.

Ya, the requirements for the Uni of Rochester are not as high as you may think. Although it may not be a peace of cake to get in, as long as you keep your grades where they are (doesn’t hurt to improve them) and keep your sat/act scores up towards the 2000’s/30’s, you have a pretty decent chance of getting in. Remember, the applications (essays) are also a big factor, so make sure you work hard on those when you apply.

Chance me back please

I have replied to both of your chances threads.

Looks like you’ll be in to me! If anything you could work on those SATs(that’s what I’m focusing on) but you should be good to go! :)

With a 29 ACT and a 4.0 I’d call it a high match, but you have a plenty of time to get the scores up and think about the essays. Definitely an attainable dream for you!!!

I applied this year, care to chance me for UofR and some others?http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1586220-welcoming-any-all-chances.html

You have a great shot! I hope you have gotten your projected ACT scores, though. Your ECs are perfectly showing your interest and capabilities within that interest. If you’d like to improve it, you may want to participate in some activities outside of your interest and comfort zone. Perhaps, MUN or chess club etc. Good luck!

Chance me? Also U Rochester
