Has anyone heard of how hard this school is to get into for transfer students that are out of state? I have a 3.6 GPA.

Not too hard. If you have $$, it won't be a problem at all for you!

That's one thing I don't have...

It doesn't matter whether your in-state or not, U.R. is not a state school - apply and see if they give you financial aid.

I shall. But aside from that, why do I hear so many complaints about the school? And it seems like it's very unpopular. Barely any topics on the actual forum for U.R.

bump his last statement

theres a few schools like that - CMU, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Brandeis, etc.

this is just a guess, but maybe URochester isnt very popular b/c nothing stands out - by that I mean they arent "tops" for any particular major....

but dont take your transferring cues for a school you like based on its CC popularity, if you like the place, go for it!

The reason that U of R is not known much is that it is located pretty cold area and does not give much financial aid. However, it is good on science undergraduate research programs.

hmm...i may go to rochester as a junior next year...but i'm not doing anything related to the sciences at all. do you think it's still worth it to study history, french, and classics there?

eh.. i applied.. though i highly doubt i'd actually attend.
why did i apply? the answer is too stupid to even mention.

This question implies that you believe UR is a state school; it's not. It's private. In state or out of state is irrelevant.

Yes. Rochester is excellent in these areas.

haha U of R saved me. I got rejected from so many schools due to very low SAT scores, and did not want to go to University of Tennessee. Hey, although I am transferring to Vanderbilt (I am not sure if I got accepted yet), U of R is pretty awesome. =) I am sure you guys can try for app to Rochester since the acceptance rate is pretty high; even you have 40% of chance(very high) of getting in if you apply as a freshmen

just wondering about a couple things...

aspen88, if it's great, what are your reasons for transferring?

i heard it's a really academically challenging school...why is it so easy to get into, then?

I am transferring for many reasons. First, I can get an internship at one of national labs located near Vanderbilt University. Second, I am very very homesick.(I got a depression while I go to U of R) Third, Vanderbilt University was my first choice college, but I got rejected last year. I wish I could move this school to Tennessee, then this school might become more famous than vanderbilt. XD hahaha jk
Yes, U of R is an academically challenging school especially in pre-med courses. However, it is apparently easy to get in because not many applicants are applying this school. This can be many reasons. For first of all, this school does not give much financial aid compared to other colleges. Second, it is located in very cold area ( it is awefully cold ).

have you taken any history classes? if so, can you comment on their level of difficulty, etc. and what about the surrounding area? i heard the crime rate is kind of bad...i heard as long as you stay on campus, you'll be fine but even so i've read about people getting robbed right in the middle of campus as well.

and this is just a general question to everyone, do you think it would be better to apply to law school from the university of rochester versus a state school like rutgers?

I have not taken any history classes so I am not sure... The surrounding area is kind of ghetto.... people say that it is safe unless we cross a bridge.. However, there have been many robbing incidents in campus for 4 times last semester. We have not had any in this semester yet.. =/

I also go to U of R and I duno what 4 robbing incidents occurred on campus. There are definitely occurrences off campus, but security on campus is pretty tight. On top of it, the school is sort of in the middle of the ghetto and the nice part....on one side is the ghetto on the other is the Medical Center and a main road which are pretty safe. The weather is also not bad comparatively speaking. I'm from nyc and I didn't have any trouble with the weather here.

In terms of academics, U of R is a very challenging science school, but thats not to say that the history courses or poli sci courses aren't tough. A lot of people take them which makes them competitive, but those courses are definitely not as difficult as pre-med courses or engineering classes. I don't know how much of a difference it will make applying to law school from U of R as opposed to Rutgers, but I'd say it is safe to say it will only help, especially if you do well here.

Funny thing though, I'm also applying to transfer haha...but thats because I can't live in such a rural place..I need a big city.

There was a robbery near Hoyt aditorium once. It occurred at 7pm ish. >.< I think everything has been better since this semester has started.

overall from your experiences would you recommend urochester to others as a place to attend?

depends on what other places you are considering and what you are looking for in a school
