University of San Diego 2023

@JBSeattle, Congrats on all your daughter’s acceptances! I have similar stats 3.5 UW, 3.8 W and 1330 SAT, a year-round athlete, school paper and many volunteer activities and coaching. I’m still waiting to hear, my status says Complete-ready for review. I also applied to SDSU, but have not heard yet. I’m curious what your daughter declared as her major at San diego state? Again, congrats on everything so far!

@Whit99
She declared as a business major.

The letter was a decline.

Oh and best of luck @Whit99 !!
You may have a better shot as you do have a much better SAT score.

@JBSeattle my daughter wanted to continue her Catholic education in California at either LMU or USD, but didn’t get in. Got in at Gonzaga, Seattle U, Chapman, TCU, U of Redlands,ASU,U of Hawaii and a number of CSUs including Pomona, but waiting for SLO and SDSU. Denied Tulane also (reach). My friends 3 kids went to Wesleyan and loved it. Is SDSU a potential fit for your daughter? My daughter would love to go there but w 94k apps that is doubtful. My oldest is grad SLO this year and I have another at U of Redlands. All the private’s gave a ton of aid with Redlands topping the list. Chances are I cdnt have afforded LMU and USD, as it seems that aid is limited.

@JBSeattle, Sorry about the decline letter, but she has some other great options and it looks like the merit is very limited at USD this year. Even if I get in, I won’t be able to go without merit. I also applied to SDSU business! So far I have gotten into Chapman and U of Redlands with merit. Best of luck, I do believe things happen for a reason and we will end up where we’re meant to be!

@CaliMck15
Sounds like your daughter also has some nice choices. Gonzaga is a great school given that it winds up being affordable (like USD can be pricey). We have a family friend who will be playing lacrosse at Redlands.

My daughter wants to go to Manhattan College and she will likely go there. USD is a little over $40k per and Western WA in state is roughly half the cost. Other than being in San Diego, my wife and I strongly feel that San Diego St does not have any advantage over Western WA. At $80,000 extra over 4 years it just would not make sense.

@Whit99
Agreed and nice that you have some options. San Diego St makes a lot more sense for someone who is in state so hopefully you get in!

As stated previously, no merit money received for my son with his earlier acceptance. Received an update to his portal last night and disappointing financial aid package received. USD definitely not in line with other similar schools in terms of financial support. Apparently, they believe their location will carry the day and people will just pay the higher price tag? In my opinion, anyone paying anything even close to full price for USD is foolish. My son has other options, so we are moving on.

Hey! Is anyone still waiting on their decision? I haven’t heard back yet so wondering if anyone else is waiting as well.

@Turnippman still waiting here! There will be another big wave (hopefully sooner rather than later!)

@sammycp with those stats it should be Alcala I would think depending on what your GPA is out of 4 (which i assume would be 3.7 or so). Check the net price calculator with your GPA on the 4 point scale and if it is not correct you should call them. GOOD LUCK!

@Whit99 If you are considering U of Redlands, my daughter goes there and I can share her experiences with you

@suburbiatexas Thank you! I have a 4.0 on the 4.0 unweighted scale and it says that I’m eligible for the $25,000 Alcala scholarship, but I only received the $18,000 Presidential scholarship. I might call them, but it seems like they haven’t given very helpful answers to other people on this thread who have called.

should more decisions be coming out today? The first wave was 2/13 i thought so this would be the two week mark

@CaliMck15, Thank you, that’s really nice! Right now I think I’m leaning towards Chapman, but I did get significantly more merit from U of Redlands and both schools are recruiting me for swimming. I have not visited the campus yet either and plan on doing so in the Spring. Would love to hear more about it!

@Turnippman, I have not heard back yet either. My status says “Complete- ready for review”

@Whit99 my 2nd D got into both also. Chapman was her dream school but she got deferred initially, then got the admit from Redlands and went to admitted students day and fell in love w it. Chapman couldn’t match the merit $ and she felt like the campus was too small. Redlands ending up giving her even more $ in the end. She is a Straight A student there. She also loves that she is done in April each year. She is double majoring in Liberal Students and Mgmt. She will have a MA in both in 5 years and we pay the same as a CSU so it made sense for her ( and me?). She spends weekends in LA and OC. Loves having a car there to get around, esp because the on campus food options aren’t the greatest. But for her it’s not a big deal.

Fingers crossed for you at USD. I’m sure you’ll hear soon that you got in!

Still waiting. Really hope to hear a decision soon!!

Portal still says complete and ready to review

Same here :confused:

Has anyone’s info changed to committee review in the last 3 days?
