University of San Diego 2023

Just called admissions office and they said the decisions might not all be released by April 1. Some might be released shortly after

Thatā€™s crazy

This college has prolonged the decision so much that my son is refusing to go here even if he gets accepted now. He says it says a lot about how little they care about their applicants.

@Kassie73 Iā€™m starting to agree, they havenā€™t even sent out an email explaining the situation. I know they told us that our decisions would be out by April 1st, but with so many applicants having already recieved their decision weeks before it is getting insane

Very unprofessional in my opinion. USC with over 65k applications and all of the negative issues, still completed the process in a timely matterā€¦sorry vent. Great school, but not a great process for admissions

so I got admitted a while ago and I got the deanā€™s scholarship. On the website, the deanā€™s scholarship is under a different category than merit scholarships so Iā€™m wondering if anyone knows whether or not Iā€™ll receive more?
Also, does anyone elseā€™s portal say that no information is available under financial aid?

I got my acceptance last week and I still havenā€™t received my letter in the mail or any information on financial aid or merit. They are very slow in all aspects it seems. But if you look at it in a positive way, maybe there is a ā€œBā€ list and theyā€™re waiting to see if kids who have received acceptances decline since the UCā€™s are out and they can offer up more spots to those still waiting.

A ā€œBā€ list? No, I donā€™t think so. They havenā€™t gotten through all the applications yetā€¦THAT is the problem. You and some others were lucky to receive word sooner but the ā€œwait listā€ if thatā€™s what you mean, is a separate thing. People are still being accepted just like people who received acceptances weeks ago. This school is just slow, and if they DO go beyond their promised notification deadline date of April 1st they they should, as a courtesy, send out an email letting people know that!

I just spoke with admissions and they said counselors are still reviewing applicationsā€¦ could be past April 1st!

This is very inconvenient for people who had planned to attend admitted students day on April 13.

Well said Breeze15. I couldnā€™t agree more with the courtesy e-mail. Hope we all know so we can plan our next chapter wherever that is!!

One thing that is very frustrating/confusing with most private schools and merit awards is that they wonā€™t say if you didnā€™t receive any. Not sure why they just donā€™t point that out as opposed to having to make you do more inquiries to the schools. These schools are expensive just point it out so we can make an informed decision. Received a notification in the Portal last week and official letter today but no mention or Merit. Would just like to knowā€¦

They usually send a financial aid letter that will just show loans etc if they are not offering merit aid. If they are offering merit it would be included.

I have to agree the wait is stressful. USD was one of my daughters top two schools. The time waiting has caused her to look closer at another option. Sheā€™s a high stat student so Iā€™d be very surprised if sheā€™s not admitted. If she doesnā€™t hear one way or the other by 4/1, she says she is moving on.

@teeneetiny, I had the same question, but got it answered today. I got accepted last week but no mention in my portal. I received my acceptance packed today via snail mail. There was no mention of merit. I emailed my admission counselor and he said if you were to receive merit it would be included in your acceptance packet. He went on to say they only give merit to the top 35% based primarily on GPA and SAT/ACT scores. He also included info about that last years the average 50% range was 3.81-4.23. So most students receiving merit would be at least in the 4.0 range and above range and/or strong test scores. My stats are 3.8 GPA 1330 SAT. I have a ton of ECā€™s including athletics. He informed me I was not awarded merit. Iā€™m ok with that, my second choice was Chapman and I got a great merit scholarship from them.

@Kassie73 I couldnā€™t agree more. Total sh*tshow. My son applied mid-October and hasnā€™t received ONE notice, email, outreach, response. Oh sorry, there was one super-lame ā€œWebinarā€ invite that had ZERO information and felt like it was run by B actors. Sorry to be such a hater, but if they want anybody to drop $70k/year they should do a better job communicating and marketing. Their yield is doomed to remain below ~20% unless they can shake up this process to fall in line with other schools/competitors. Not for nothing, but you definitely donā€™t want to be the last school to inform students of their decisions around 4/1. Thereā€¦I said it. Now back to ā€œwaiting patientlyā€.

My D applied early sept and had all her docs in by 9/16 -hasnt heard a peep. sat 1310 goa 3.93/4.2. sometimes u have to listen to the message they are sending. i guarantee u USDs application process is a reflection of how they will treat you over the next four years. #hardpass

I have to agree that USD has done a very poor job compared to the other CA private universities!! It does make you wonder how they would treat you if you are a student there. Would their responses be this weak and lackluster? Iā€™m hearing more and more of you say itā€™s a turn off and my son says the same. His admission counselor keeps saying his decision should be in his portal yet itā€™s not there. We are over it now. Heā€™s been treated so well by others like Santa Clara Univ so we are moving on even if heā€™s accepted which Iā€™m fairly certain he will be.

Just called again and now the admissions deadline is April 5th. Less than 10 days before their admitted students day. And they didnt even let anyone know.

Anyone who doesnā€™t receive notification by April 1st should be awarded a hefty scholarship for stress and inconvenience (even if declined)ā€¦ha! The school would never have allowed flexibility in their application deadline so itā€™s a bit shocking that they are doing this and not even sending out a courtesy notification or explanation.
