Thanks! What was your kiddo’s decision?
My D has narrowed it to Denver University (she loves the city, but was so-so on the campus), USD (if she gets in), and then UP and SU are still on her list (visiting next week). Hoping by Easter she will have decided one way or the other.
What’s on your short list?
My daughter deciding between
West coast:
UW Seattle - small merit
Santa Clara - good merit
UCSB
UC Irvine
USD - good merit
East Coast:
BC
Northeastern - ok merit
Fordham - ok merit
Delaware - full tuition
Pitt - small merit
Mich State - full tuition
Any thoughts? We are hoping to visit the west coast in april
In State/California
-Loyola Marymount U (gave $)
-Pepperdine (gave $)
-University of SD (gave $)
-San Diego State (cheapest by FAR)
Other
-Fordham (we are originally from NY) gave $
-SMU (I went here)
-University of Washington/Seattle
Still waiting
-GW
-Tulane (reach)
-U of Miami (reach)
-Wisconsin
Some great choices. The UCs are considered Public Ivys now. UCSB is great for everything. Irvine - more engineering.
Kinda hard to pass up those “full tuitions!”
I’m guessing drew isn’t a CA resident, otherwise I’d say UCSB is tough beat. But at 65k oos, it’s not as much the obvious winner
My oldest is an Animation major (junior) at LMU. He absolutely loves it there!
We visited Santa Clara back in 2019, along with UCSF and USD. D didn’t apply there but our friends who came with us did - their D was accepted ED and is absolutely over the moon. Lovely campus and right in the heart of jobs central.
Congratulations!! Outside of cost, I think it depends on her major and where she feels most comfortable. I’m from Northern Cal, living now in SO Cal but have spent a lot of time in Washington and have visited all of those west coast campuses. Each of the west coast schools have VERY different feels and environments, even between SB, Irv, SD and Santa Clara. I’d definitely come visit and see all of them, but she can’t really go wrong with any one of them!
My son loves LMU…he said “it feels like home” but it is almost home!!! We are 25 min away in Redondo Beach!!!
By husband is reluctant to pay for it bc it is so close to home. Do the kids go out in Manhattan Beach? Is Everyone from LA?
Any input is appreciated!!! It is my son’s favorite but my husband needs to justify the price over SDSU!
I have an LMU Senior. Yes, Manhattan Beach is a place they go, but more likely Venice or Santa Monica. % of LA kids has dropped dramatically in the past decade, it is no longer an LA “grade 13”. We are from PA and daughter has many many friends to see in NY/NJ/MA/CT/FL in the summer.
SDSU - no complaints, but HUGE. My USD applicant this year didn’t want to get out of the car. We saw USD first and then SDSU was just enormous and certainly not as beautiful.
But, all the people who say the choice won’t define you are right. They end up doing pretty well no matter where they go. I wish I believed that 5 years ago, would have saved me my remaining hair.
My S and his friends do head to Manhattan Beach as well as Santa Monica frequently. Agreed that he has made many friends and very few are from L.A. We live in the Minneapolis MN area and of all coincidences, two of his best friends who he met at LMU are both from here.
He has had an incredible experience there and the first time he walked on campus he literally said “this is where I’m supposed to be.” He’s never looked back or regretted his choice.
My daughter graduated from DU in June of 19. She loved it. The campus is beautiful. It’s in a fairly urban area, but when you are on campus, you can’t even tell. It’s a great choice! My youngest was accepted and strongly considered it, but ultimately, she’s a beach person!
anyone receive updates today?
I received a waitlist offer through email
D just checked her emails and has been waitlisted. We will look through what that entails tomorrow. She’s a bit upset about it right now and needs a little time to process. Best of luck to all those still awaiting a decision!
Tell her USD accepts off waitlist often!! I know two people who got in off the waitlist last year alone.
Is there anything to do to show further interest if you are on a waitlist? Beside click “yes, keep me on the list?”
You could try emailing the admissions committee to show continued interest, I’m pretty sure USD considers that bc they are a private school!
I see a few people received waitlist emails last night. Has anyone else still not heard anything and waiting for a decision on Monday?
