University of San Diego Class of 2025 Regular Decision

Thanks for info. Just trying to figure out where they are at. I’m getting the feeling that they may not have space left for the remaining applications they have yet to respond to which is why seeing mostly waitlists and now spring admittance. That’s just supporting my fear even more.
D is coming from PA and accepted to LMU but really wanted her to have USD to look at too and then choose which area she liked better. Don’t think will want to wait for Spring if that is only option. Also guessing Spring will come without merit and she did get decent merit at LMU. Guess we’ll know more tomorrow. :crossed_fingers:

LMU is a fab school (my S is a junior there majoring in Animation). All around terrific experience academically, socially and culturally. Can’t go wrong with that choice…

Waitlisted today at around 3 pm. All the wait for this … does anyone really think there will be acceptances tomorrow?

Can you share information about SDSU? My son got in and we are thrilled with the tuition;). He is afraid of the old party school repudiation. I was extremely impressed with the online information sessions!

SDSU admission has become really competitive over a number of years. From a value standpoint you cannot beat it. My D got into a number of schools that are ranked higher on paper but when it comes down to value proposition and quality, SDSU really stands out to us. Also, for a traditional college experience it offers full breadth. She wants to attend law school after so the lower tuition really helps. Housing though is a little higher than other schools. One thing that also stood out is that they are actually expanding, big (mission Valley) development underway with additional classrooms, housing, athletic facilities and open space. Many more expensive schools are actually undergoing budget cuts. That says something in my opinion. Why do I want to pay $50k plus in tuition for a school that is cutting staff? With USD, it will really depend on whether she gets assistance, if not then the decision is not so difficult. Of course USD has a beautiful campus and has plenty to offer.

My D got accepted at LMU. Watched the president’s welcome video. He mentioned budget cuts, wondering if your S has noticed any impact from that? We got some assistance from LMU but the net cost is still way higher than the UCs and state school that she is looking at. I’ve been impressed by LMU but not sure if I can justify it from a cost perspective, even with merit dollars much costlier for us.

Great points. You mentioned law school - my son wants to do that at well. I was a little worried bc SDSU doesn’t have a tradition poli sci/pre law program.
Any insight from law schools regarding USD, SDSU, LMU or Pepperdine?

Is USD doing budget cuts or were you meaning LMU? I did see University of Portland cut teachers/staff salary. Thx!

LMU.

My senior hasn’t seen any impact, but it was announced a few months ago.

Yes, so many traditional (campus-based) universities having had to cut budgets based on what’s happened in the past year.

Our biggest challenge this past year (not related to the budget cuts) has been the animation lab being closed (entire campus closed this year), which has changed how the lab-based classes were presented this year. We aren’t anticipating any changes to his program (he will be a senior this fall), but always a good idea to check with the school and ask how the cuts might impact courses/resources.

Also, LMU has responded positively to FA appeals (we know two families that appealed and were given more $$).

What is FA appeal and how do you do this?

My senior likes SDSU bc so many majors and school spirit. Some concerns about location and size but haven’t checked it out extensively. We visit the beach cities in SD often.

Also has Cal Poly UW Portland Boulder Utah Oregon.
Hard to decide. No answer yet from USD.

i just got my acceptance this morning !! and i’ll be attending USD in the fall, it was the last school i was waiting on and it was one of my top schools !! go toreros:blue_heart::white_heart::blue_heart:!!

Congrats!!! Did they offer any merit aid? My daughter was worried about that since she hasn’t heard.

Congrats on your acceptance!

Both of the families we know who went through this actually had their kids reach out to LMU directly. They spoke with their admissions counselor who helped them determine what to say.

If you’re asking about FA appeal for USD, I don’t have any details on that but would suggest your kiddo reach out to his/her admissions counselor.

My son’s status just changed from “Complete - ready for review” to “committee review”. So not sure what that means. We’re just looking inside the portal at Admission/Application Status/More Information. Is there anywhere else to look?
