University of San Diego Class of 2025 Regular Decision

Was the award in your acceptance email or was it a separate email?

She didn’t get the Honors email yet, but on the link it said: High school seniors who have been accepted to the University of San Diego are eligible to apply in the Spring prior to entering USD. Students should email honors@sandiego.edu to request the application.

To learn more about the Honors Program, please visit the FAQ for prospective students and check out our Honors Program Handbook.

So…I’d go ahead and email.

no not yet

it was in a separate email. Both started with congratulations of admittance into the school though. I got the admittance email yesterday and today I got the award and honors one

I actually just emailed an hour or two ago, but just now got their invitation to apply! The email had a link to a page on MySanDiego with the application.

For those that rcvd $25k would you mind posting stats? I thought my daughter would get that and she didn’t- also no mention of honors. She’s received honors everywhere else and two invitations to compete for full-rides. 3.97 uw, 4.5 w, top 1% of class, 10 APs, worked 2-3 jobs since she was 14, varsity sport, volunteered etc. Thank you! And congrats to all!

Seems like she was a great candidate for Honors!

My D21 received the Alcalá Scholarship. She has similar stats to your daughter, but a bit higher GPA - GPA 4.43 & Weighted GPA 4.56. Lots of AP & has been taking college classes as well from UCSD & Mesa. Lots of leadership at school, tons of volunteering, varsity 4 years, summer job. I already know she will not qualify for any financial aid because she hasn’t received any yet from her safeties.

Thank you! Great stats! The max unweighted gpa at our high school is a 4.0. Best of luck to you and your daughter!

Your daughter seems to have worked extremely hard and I’m surprised she didn’t get anything! But congratulations on her acceptance! With her track record I know she’ll go on to be very successful in her life.

I got the Alcala Scholarship. I had a 4.0 UW and 4.44 W (about, I forget the exact), 9 APs (all 5s and one 4). 1500+ SAT

Extracurriculars: leadership positions/participated in a couple, founded one. Lot of extracurriculars related to piano (teaching, competitions, volunteer). Same with medical stuff. I have a side job, tutor, and more volunteer work. Overall I’d rate them like a 7/10.

Essays: I honesty don’t know how my essays went but I think they were pretty good?

Recs: I chose 2 teachers I had for more than two years: my calc teacher and my biomedical/biology teacher.

That’s interesting she hasn’t heard anything… but then again this whole process has been weird so it could be yet to come. My stats are on the first post in this thread.

Similar stats for my son as drewcollege4, but no mention of honors and got a smaller scholarship (18K I think) than Alcala. A bit frustrating.

Sorry I wasn’t totally clear - she did receive $21,000 but when I looked up her stats on the usd merit website (before they took down the soecifics) it looked like she’d get $25,000 and she was hoping to get into the honors program but there was no mention of it in the letter or on the portal. Thanks everyone for the replies!

Does anyone know if USD can meet 100% of financial need? I got the Alcalá scholarship but I’m still concerned about the rest of the tuition

I’m sort of in the same boat as you. My counselor shared a helpful spreadsheet with me that says, on average, they meet ~74% of demonstrated need. Again, that could be more or less; this is more of a computation rather than an official figure they publish. I’ll attach the document here if you’re curious about other numbers.

If it turns out that they don’t offer you a very good financial aid package, you could always try to use this figure as leverage to negotiate with them. This is just my two cents, though. I’m not a college admissions expert

My D received an email stating she was admitted as an Honors Illuminate Scholar. No mention of merit money. Not sure what to make of this.

I think Illuminate is the Honors Living Learning Community. My daughter wrote her essay about the Advocate LLC. She asked the AO if she could still get into honors if she wrote about advocate instead of Illuminate. But maybe that’s why she didn’t get any honors wording in her letter or portal?

Do you all think there will be another “wave” on Monday?

Yes, there will be another batch of acceptances on Monday. Based on past years, USD has released their acceptances every Monday of the month.

If you didn’t know, USD is releasing a few results right now.
