^ I was accepted today as well, congratulations to the both of us. What is your major?

Hey did you guys get emails or regular letters via snail mail? Congrats to both of you guys!

@secularpoetry I applied for Computer Science in the College of Arts and Sciences. Congratulations on your acceptance as well! @jmura1958 I received my packet in the mail and later via email. The email is just a congratulatory email and does not contain any exact information pertaining to merit aid.

Awesome! I’m sorry to keep pestering, but do you know if all admitted students get emails at the same time because I haven’t received one yet and I’m really nervous…

I am sure that you will get it soon. Perhaps it has been a lapse on the part of the admissions team at USF. Do not stress out.

Congratulations to everyone who got accepted! I got the email on the 23rd as well, and the packet shortly after. I’m super excited to be accepted, and I though I’d post my stats and merit award for future reference.

Decision: Accepted
Major: History
Scholarship: University Scholar at $22,000/year

I also want to note that though I have quite a few college credits (I’ll get my Assoc. Arts the same time I graduate HS) I still applied and was accepted as a freshman. My admissions counselor said that USF is generous in terms of accepting transfer credits, which makes this school a great option for me (and anyone else coming in w/college credits)

Objective:

  • []SAT I (breakdown): 1400 M+V, 2050 M+V+W, 720M-680V-650W
    [
]ACT (breakdown): 29 (didn’t send official report but self-reported on Common App)
    []Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.93 (I calculated; school doesn’t do UW), W = 4.12
    [
]Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 5/126 top 4%
[]Senior Year Course Load: 18 Credits at community college: Math 175 (Calculus II), English 102 (Research Writing), History 101 (Ancient-1500 C.E.), Philosophy 111 (World Religions), Comm 101 (Speech), Applied Music 114 (Jazz Piano), plus Senior Project & an Advisory class at my high school.
    [
]Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Not many (because my high school was an online charter) so all I received was the President’s Education award.

Subjective:

[ul]
[]Extracurriculars (place leadership in parentheses): 3 years with leadership training/community service group (served as peer-elected Vice President and mentor-appointed Secretary), community theatre involvement through my entire high school career (and many years before that), Actively involved in church (teaching Sunday school, VBS art classes, Co-directing Christmas play 3 years in a row), etc.
[
]Job/Work Experience: Freelance web design (self taught HTML/CSS coding; building e-commerce website for local business) and assistant teaching theatre classes.
[]Volunteer/Community Service: Quite a lot; I don’t know the total hours. Many of my extracurriculars were service oriented.
[
]Summer Activities: Community service, TAing for theatre classes, Educational travel experience
[]Essays: I thought my Common App essay was really good and had it reviewed and edited by a professional college counselor who did as well. The extra question was pretty good, but it wasn’t very thorough because of the small word limit.
[
]Teacher Recommendations: Only sent one but it was written by my history professor and the letter was fantastic; very thorough, descriptive, and positive.
[li]Counselor Rec: Really quite good, because my HS is online I didn’t know her too well, but I talked with her a lot about it/myself first.[/li][/ul]

Other:

[ul]
[]State (if domestic applicant): Idaho (had been told that my score/GPA look even better with Idaho being one of (if not the) worst-ranked states for education)
[
]Country (if international applicant): United States
[]School Type: Online Charter
[
]Ethnicity: European
[]Gender: M
[
]Income Bracket: under $45,000 (with 6 people in family)
[li]Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None specifically[/li][/ul]

Reflection:

  • []Where else you are applying or have already applied: Accepted EA at Gonzaga, St. Mary’s Texas, Seattle University, and Loyola New Orleans (with similar scholarships). Deferred EA to RD at Tulane University. Applied to many other places, a few being: NYU, USC, George Washington, Fordham, University of San Diego, Cal Berkeley, UCLA, and some other super-reach ones (Stanford, Pitzer, a few Ivy Leagues) … I’ve applied to a lot of places as my Common App fee was waived due to income.
    [
]General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: Congratulations to everyone who has gotten accepted. I’m super excited about USF and the prospect of going to school in San Francisco, and I’m going down to SF next week to visit the school! This is a top option for me (the community college credit transferability is huge). Best of luck to everyone who has applied RD and will hear back later!
