University of San Francisco

Can anyone tell me how hard it is to get into this particular school? Any help from some first hand experience would be greatly appreciated, but all input is also a great help.

Thanks in advance!

I don't think it's too hard to get in.

Anyone I know or who knows someone who goes there loves it...

Oh and don't expect help on this forum unless your debating between whether you should go to Johns Hopkins or Yale.

I expected as much, my previous posts have come under the greatest scrutiny while I've been here. I don't have the best High School Record or the greatest GPA, but I have enough confidence within myself to know that I'm a student that can make a difference. I hate how the "Top Colleges" literally have people killing themselves trying to make themselves look good enough to just be considered. All I see on these forums is prodigy upon prodigy getting help. I barely see anyone with not so great stats try and get help here. I think it is because the fear of ridicule. But hey beggers can't be choosers.

Sorry for the little rant there I just hate the atmosphere that sometimes plagues these boards.

Any extra help and input however would be greatly appreciated!

and DPC can you elaborate on why these people you speak of like it there? I'm interested in their Chemistry Major, does anyone know anything particular about that department.

Thanks again in advance!

USF is a good school, my brother who is a surgeon, attended for undergrad before going to Medical school. His wife, who is an RN also attended USF. Both have taken leadership roles in their medical careers...part of the Jesuit way. A family friend also attended school there and is an attorney (partner) for a prominent firm in Los Angeles. It is similar in acceptance to LMU or Santa Clara, fellow Jesuit schools. San Francisco is a great city too!

By similar acceptance rate what do you mean? I'm not very familiar with LMU or Santa Clara an elaboration would be most appreciated! Thanks.

Well my second cousin goes theres and she loves it...
I haven't really talked to her about it but thats what my parents say.
I'm pretty sure she's premed and shes also in a sorority.

Would you leave Cali?

I actually live in Hawaii, USF is one of the more prominent schools in mind, I wanted to take Chemistry for undergraduate before fully moving on to Pharmacy which is my ultimate goal. I wanted to go to UCSF for Pharmacy after 2 years of doing prerequisites at USF and if that doesn't work out I would go on to fully get my Chem Degree than try again for UCSF since most that are admitted have a degree already anyway. That's just one of many plans which I have and the one that I really wish I could carry out above them all. My Safety is actually HPU which is Hawaii Pacific University, not to far from where I live. I really want to get off this God Forsaken island though. Did you have any other places in mind?

No I was just curious, you may like somewhere like Seattle.

Is University of Hawaii a cool school if you were coming out of state?

UH? Depending which one you go to I beleive there's two seperate branches and third one coming up near where I live. Depending on what major you want to take I'm pretty sure that they have some good programs, not exactly which ones are good, but I've heard a few good things here and there I just cant remember from the top of my head. Administration has had a bad rep for being not up to par with other colleges, but I'm not sure how far that goes. Dorm life will probably be lousy since space in Hawaii is on premium as you can imagine. Life is not cheap in Hawaii I can tell you that, but hey it's the price you pay for being on an island. HPU on the other hand has been known for a diverse student body, again I myself don't have enough information about the academics and how it matches with other colleges. I beleive they have a good nursing program in HPU but not to sure if its good enough to be known outside the state.

I've been to Seattle, but I don't really like the atmosphere, feels a bit gloomy at times over there. I have considered WashU I want to go into Pharmacy inevitably.

My GPA is 2.967 right now and I have an explanation for it. My junior year had a few bumps on the road pertaining to my personal life so just take that into consideration because I don't want to elaborate more about that. But my GPA really dropped because of a stupid US History teacher that gave me an F on the last quarter of his class. I had an A on the first quarter. Imagine a horribly disorganized man who does not come to class. The students came to class more than him and we had tons of subs who had to fill in for him. The class was a wreck. Inevitably he ended up giving random grades. The worst students in our class passed! The greatest failed! We tried speaking up to the administration, but we were put down and they blamed it on us for being our fault. He has a new teacher to the school and now he no longer even works at out school and has left a lot of us screwed over. Today I talked to my new conselor and she is actually make an effort to try and fix the screw up that this teacher did to my grades so hopefully they can do something. If they do my GPA should boost past 3.1.

I know I don't have the best GPA, but I'm not exactly looking to get into an IVY league, and here's a bad move but my GPA went down because of my PE classes. I got D's on them and here's why. I came from a private school during my Freshman year and basically my PE credit from that school didn't transfer correctly and I had to take PE a whole other year! I was outraged mainly because I could be taking a better class that would actually help me academically instead of some crap class that had no education pertaining to it whatsoever! And no I'm not obese I'm correct wait and dancing is actually one of my hobbies. I was simply outraged by having to take a crap class so my rebellious side got to me and got me the D.

That's my life story about how the Hawaii Public School system destroyed my grade point average. At least their trying to fix it now. So I'm praying on it. Not to mention I have 3 AP Classes 1 Honors Class and 1 Language class to help me boost up my GPA by the end of first semester which will help at least. I'm not resting without straight A's As.

I know this sounds like a lot of jibber jabber, but it's my story and a story that I'm not using to get out of a bad situation. This is no excuse for being lazy because if you were one of my friends you would know how hard I work at school. A lot of the teachers in my school don't have a teaching degree what do you say to that?

I'm making the best of what I got. So if you plan on posting something to berate me about how all of this is my fault save it, I've stated my case in what seems clear and just to myself and to many of the people who support me in life and have taken the time to listen to the real details.

Thank you to all of those in advance who help me out.

Hi - Here is a thread from a week or two ago that might have some useful information for you: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/552160-university-san-francisco.html?highlight=university+of+san+francisco

I have visited USF - it is beautiful!

Wooops Mistake!!!!

USF's admission stats lie somewhere between mid-tier UC and top Cal State.

Anyone out there considering attending this school Fall 2009?
Pros and cons?

SF is a decent school but overpriced and overrated IMO. Plus SF the city is very expensive to live in. I would consider UH if you get in state tuition. Financial Aid at USF is hard to come by even for students with 3.5 GPAs
