Hi all, I'm wondering my chances of entering UofS. My GPA is 3.2 and SAT's about 1000. They recently "deferred" my application to make a more informed decision on an interview/tour and i think i sold myself well. I volunteer and do community service. I have not yet received a letter and am wondering what is going on, many people have already received theirs. They have about a 75% acceptance rate which to me seems rather high. I also got my GPA up about 5 points this last trimester to an 88. Thanks in advance.

2 years ago, my D's SAT scores were more than 100 points higher than yours-GPA was either higher or lower than yours depending on whether yours is weighted or unweighted. She was deferred and ultimately waitlisted. She did not interview (at the time, they did not do interviews). At this point, send in your mid-year grades if they have improved your GPA at all. Best of luck!

Did she ultimately get accepted/rejected?

Many colleges send a rejection letter if you are going to be rejected. Not receiving any letter at all is a strange occurance, especially if your friends have received theirs already. You may want to check with your local postal system to see if they have received any complaints about lost mail by others. My good friend Harold Millman M.D. tells an amusing story about the postal system. His friend Nicholas Carraway had always scolded him for not attending his wedding, while Harold insisted that he had never been invited. 30 years later, Harold received a fancy looking letter, complete with a 10 cent stamp on top. The letter was the invitation to the wedding. On the back of the letter was written, "found under machine, please excuse." Complements of the United States Postal System. I suggest you go to the office and demand that they search under their machines. It can't hurt.

Is Scranton the same place that The Office (one of the funniest shows ever) takes place in? In Pennsylvania?

She was ultimately rejected. However, she had already gotten into her first choice by the time she heard from Scranton. While she accepted a place on the waiting list (to give herself some time to make sure that her first choice was still #1), she did nothing in terms of communicating with them further to demonstrate a strong continued interest. If you are waitlisted, I suggest that you contact them immediately by phone and let them know that if they accept you from the waiting list, you will definitely attend. A friend of ours did that at Georrge Washington University, and was ultimately accepted off of the waitlist there.

Good news, I believe I am accepted. I just recieved an E-mail from Scranton inviting me to a reception for accepted students. Although, I have not recieved the official letter yet. I am assuming I will get it shortly?
