U Scranton - a decent regional, urban (well, as urban as Scranton can get) Catholic university. Compare to St. Joe's and LaSalle.

The U of S is a fantastic school with very strong business & accounting programs, pre-med and physical therapy programs. (In the interest of full disclosure I should mention I'm a '79 grad).

Virtually every pre-med student gets accepted into med school often in Philadelphia (Thomas Jefferson, Hanneman, Temple, etc.). The school has very strong contacts with Wall Street and the top accounting programs in NYC. Most business/accounting students get good paying jobs after college.

The school's reputation has steadily increased over the past three decades and they've expanded their entire campus considerably, often by building new buildings.

They have a very good Honors program which they call SJLA. They are a Jesuit institution but have a refreshingly open approach to religion. The school reall is interested in generating graduates that make a difference in the world.

As you can probably guess, they have an extremely loyal and supportive alumni. I may be wrong but U of Scranton generates more donations from their alumni than all but one of the Jesuit institutions in America.

Most students come from the PA, NY, NJ region, but do pull from New England and Maryland and DC as well.

Good luck!

FJG - I am an '85 grad with a BS in Accounting. I will also second everything you have said here. We went to the open house this past November for my hs jr. S and I didn't even recognize the place! They said that since 1984 they have built 25 new buildings and renovated 31 others. Say good-bye to the old student center (Gunster) and hello to the new campus center slated to open this fall, 2007. http://matrix.scranton.edu/campuscenter/

One of the other things I noticed is the people are so very friendly from the professors we met, to the admin, to the students. Maybe it's because it is a smaller school with about 3,800 undergrads, but it just seemed friendlier than others we had visited.

Anyway, S said he liked it and it will be one of the schools he applies to. So, yes, a thread would be nice, esp with contributions from some current students.
